Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

My parents didnt know if I was a boy or girl (had my legs crossed every time they went to the doctor) so they picked a name that was good for both. Also it had to be spelled with a “K” because everyone starts with a “K” (cousins included).

My name is origin is pretty boring…my mom thought it sounded pretty. I thought it was funny that the subject of your post is a constant source of debate in my home. My husband and I are expecting our second baby that we were totally convinced was a girl. We were in complete agreement on the girl name but turns out my sweet little girl is actually a boy! Long story short…What’s in a name is going to be a fight for the next 4 months!

I hated my name when I was young. I wished so much that I could just have a normal name, like Jennifer or Christine. But now I love it! It’s less common, but not weird, and if someone shouts “Denise” in a public place, I can be 90% sure they’re speaking to me.

I usually go by “Lori”, but my real name is Lorelle. My father named me, and says that he named me after a beautiful French actress, and his story is rather glamorous. However, my mother debunked the story, and said “No, your dad knew a hot woman by that name back in the 70’s, and he always thought it was a pretty name. That’s where he got it.”
    Go figure.

My name is Erin and it is Irish for Ireland. My family is very Irish and my father wanted to name me after Ireland. My middle name is Cathryn with is a combo of both of my grandmothers first names which happen to be Catherine and Kathryn. the confirmation name I chose is Bridget which means strong. My last name in Galeic means Son of the hound of the sea. So my whole name means Ireland Pure Strong Son of the hound of the sea. So I have a lot Irish going on here! lol

Fabric Me! My name is a derivative of my mother’s name and she was named after one of her aunts. Also my middle name is Joy which apparently is what they felt when I was born. That seems obvious, but considering I’m number eight of nine I’ll just be glad they didn’t call me overwhelmed.

Not a day goes by that someone’s doesn’t comment on my name. I get that Allen is not typically a female name but I’m not the only one! It’s a family name and the story goes that were I a boy my parents would name me Allen and Sarah if I were a girl. When the time came they just liked Allen better. I love it…now. As a kid it was not the most fun and even as a grown-up folks take some pretty serious liberties. For the most part I’m polite in my response ;)
