Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

My dad was overseas in the army when I was born, so my aunt went to the hospital with my mom. Mom was so certain that she was having a boy that she hadn’t even picked out a girl’s name, so when I arrived, she didn’t know what to name me. She gave that honor to my aunt. I was named for the daughter of my aunt’s best friend and neighbor(Nancy) and my middle name is the name of a niece on the other side of my aunt’s family that she was very fond of(Joy).

My name is actually short for Anastasia, though I’m not fortunate enough to have that as my full name. My parents just really liked the “product of the 70’s nickname” Stacy, so they went with that. It’s means “resurrection” and stems from Greek roots. I never really liked my name growing up, but now that I’m older, I know *so few* Stacys. It’s common, but without being overly used.

My name means victory. My parents thought of naming me Nikita but since I had a cousin Nicole they decided to name me Victoria. My middle name Dawn, I think is named after my mom’s friend. I was curious to see what the meaning of Nikita was, so I just searched and it means unconquered and is a nickname for Nicole which is derived from Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. What a coincidence! Hope you liked my run on sentence. Pick me! I would love to get some great fabric for curtains!

My name means “snow” in Vietnamese, I was born in December, I guess it makes sense :)
My name is pronounced “Twit” (with the 2nd ‘t’ somewhat silent). Let’s just say I’ve had a lot of ‘interesting’ comments whenever I meet new people, but it’s a great icebreaker!

My last name means Promise :) I love it! My first name is a combination of my father and mother’s middle names! I love my name and never wish it was anything else. However, when we moved to American, it was hard for people to pronounce my name. I didn’t know they were calling me :D So I picked an English name to make life a little easier for everyone.

My parents both liked the name Ashley, it doesn’t have any significance. Being a mid-80’s baby there were TONS of Ashley’s so I was always known as Ashley L. When I have kids I’d like to give them a less popular (but still easy to pronounce) name and I’d love to use a family name for their middle name.

My mom met a woman named Tia Belle. She liked it. On the way home from the hospital they added Idella, a family name. Unfortuneatly that part of the name isn’t legally documented. I was bullied out of it at the SS office where they told me my name was too long.

My name has no special meaning (“from the brook”) but it was the only name my parents could agree on. My mom had always planned to name her first daughter Elizabeth, but married a guy whose last name was Taylor, so that name was kind of taken. My dad was voting for Heather, but Brooke (inspired by the soap opera General Hospital) won in the end.

Jennifer was one of the most popular names in the 80’s so I am always having to use my first & last name for stuff, because chances are, there is more than one Jennifer no matter where I am! Growing up, it was a little difficult to explain that my middle name was actually spelled “Lind” and not “Lynn,” which is more common. I like it though becuase it is unique :)

So, my mom says, “How about we compromise with Chesiree?” Dad says, “No, Chelsey Desiree is fine.” THANKS DAD!!!! ;)
