Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    FABRIC ME!!

My family is from a small southern town. My mom wanted to name me Monique, but was afraid everyone would call me Mon-i-q, so instead she went with Monica. Had I been one of a set of twin girls, I would have been either Yvonne or Yvette. Sounds like maybe she was a Francophile at that age!

Fabric me! My mom really liked the name Natasha when she heard it in the early ’80s and when I came along a few years later (after both parents were told they’d never have kids) it was a name they thought fit the situation, since it means a gift from the gods. I have always loved my name, since no one else in my school even had a name close to it.

My dad chose my first name based off of an actress in a movie he had recently seen. And my mom chose my middle name by naming me after her older sister. So I became Jordan Andrea.

My name has no special meaning; my parents just liked it. They did however add the “h” for Meghan since a couple down the hall in the hospital had just named their child Megan. I guess they didn’t want us confused or something…

    FABRIC ME!!!

I am an fairly good seamstress and love me some great fabric. I’ve been buying vintage 1920s-60s patterns and need more awesome fabric to make them come to life!

My name is a nickname given to me by one of my baby cousins because she couldn’t say Denise. Strangely nearly 13 years since my renaming that little girl is the only person that calls me Denise! Deese has just stuck…and it’s way more “me” apparently. I was named after one of my moms high school friends she was the only Denise my mom had met and she liked the name…my mom fully embraced my nickname, she has called me Deese nearly half my life!

My name has no special meaning, but I used to wish I had a different one when I was a kid, as there were always mulitple people in my classes with the same name. One year there were 6 girls all with my name in one class…….I definatly did not name my kids anything off of the top 100 names.

I always thought my name was a form of my aunt’s nickname… but it’s not! My parents just liked my first name. They couldn’t think of a middle name though, so my mom went through her entire work directory and found a name to pair with my first name.

FABRIC ME! I don’t think my name has that much of a meaning, but I do know that my parents wanted to call me Elizabeth instead of Beth, but a neighbor had an Elizabeth about 4 weeks before I was born! Hence, I became Beth. A few times when starting new jobs I’ve tried to “become” Elizabeth, but it just never sticks! LOL!

I never wanted a different name, just wanted mine pronounced correctly, Tear-a vs Tar-a

Ive never asked where or why my parents named me Dani. Its always been annoying because so man people say it wrong… its just like the boy but spelled different. As a kid, I wanted a different name, but never came up with anything great to change it to. I couldn’t picture being any name other than Dani now :)

My mom agonized over my name for months before choosing, and then gave me “Ann” as my middle name simply because it looked nice in a monogram with two A’s surrounding my last initial. I’ve always found it hysterical that one name took forever but the second was just because it looked nice.

My Mom asked her sister to come up with a list of boys’ names and girls’s names when she was pregnant. So my aunt and her friend (who were in high school at the time) wrote up a list of names on a lined sheet of paper. When I was born, my parents picked the first name at the top of the girls’ list: it was my aunt’s friend’s name, which she had put at the top right hand corner of the sheet of paper, like you would do when you submit a school assignment!

There is no special meaning behind my name, my parents just liked it. My grandma did insist that my middle name have 7 letters instead of 6 because my first and last name were 6 letters. So my middle name is spelled Nichole. I wish I had changed my middle name to Nicole once I got married because it is often spelled wrong on legal documents.

My name is fairly random – my parents just liked it and it fit their “rules” for naming – they decided that each name had to have two or more syllables, couldn’t be easily cutesy nicknamed and could not belong to anyone in the family history. I hated it when I was younger – I wished I could be Anastacia or something fancy, but now I dig it and I’d like to think I rock it!

FABRIC ME! My middle name, Kathleen, was picked after my mother’s best friend Kathleen passed away. My dad wanted a name to call me Kate, so it worked out well. Except they put Kathleen as my middle name and picked Amanda as my first only because it sounded good – it has no significance at all. And my dad doesn’t even call me Kate!

FABRIC ME! My name means victory. My parents thought of naming me Nikita but since I had a cousin Nicole they decided to name me Victoria. My middle name Dawn, I think is named after my mom’s friend. I was curious to see what the meaning of Nikita was, so I just searched and it means unconquered and is a nickname for Nicole which is derived from Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. What a coincidence! Hope you liked my run on sentence. Pick me! I would love to get some great fabric for curtains!
