Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

I love my name, and so do my parents. My Father only neglected to tell my mom that he dated an Annette in high school… she found out from his ol’ buddies when I was several months old! I can only imagine what an interesting conversation was had after that!

FABRIC ME!! My name comes from the one and only Audrey Hepburn who is my mother’s favorite actress/person of all time. It also means noble strength. When I was in kindergarten some movie about a seal came out called “Andre” and people started teasing me. Which I thought there was no connection, but it still hurt. That was probably the only time I wished my name was different. I love that it is considered classic and not many people have the name.

    FABRIC ME!:)

As a child, I always hated my name and pretty much each year at the beginning of the school year gave my new teachers a different nickname that I wanted to test out. I know lots of other people with my given name and there is nothing particularly wrong with it, I just never thought it suited me. So, in college, I actually changed it to Grace. Sounds a little crazy, but I constantly get comments about how my name suits me, so I guess I chose well:)

FABRIC ME! Seriously, because I need to make some curtains for my boys’ room… and my living room could use an update too.

Brandi is totally 80’s right? I’ve always hated it but it’s better than the alternative name my parents picked out- Bernice. That would’ve been hideous. I’ve always loved the name Cecilia. Simon and Garfunkel hooked me on that name when I was about 6. You’re breaking my heart. You’re shaking my confidence daily. Whoa, Cecilia…

My name is Kyle Lee. My mom named this because she was coming of during age in the 60’s and experienced gender inequality while attending art school (her professor told her she didn’t belong there and that she was taking the place of a male student). As a result she decided if she had a daughter she would name her something that was gender neutral. About 15 years later I entered the world as Kyle Lee. I got a made fun of when I was little because I had a “boy’s name.” But as I’ve gotten older I have come to love it! My mom did me a huge favor by naming me Kyle Lee, she created my identity as a strong independent female. **Another interesting part of this story was that 3 years ago I married a male Lee. What are the odds!!

I always get asked what my name, Jasie (pronounced jay-cee) is short for. But my Dad named Mike had gone by the nickname of J.C. Higgins during college. They say they do not remember how the nickname got started. They decided to name me after his nickname but wanted it to be my actual name, not just my initials, so they spelled it out. My name, therefore, is actually long for two letters!
