After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Charlie says
FABRIC ME!
My given name is Cheryl, and in middle school, I decided I preferred Cherie (ahh… middle school name changes…aie yi yi) My dad took the liberty of changing Cherie to Charlie, and Charlie I became… :)
Kelli says
FABRIC ME! No cool story about my name, my mom just liked it.
Jen says
Fabric Me! My dad named me after an actress that he liked. When I got to Kindergarten Jennifer was just to long to spell so I shortened it to Jen and it’s been that way ever since.
Beth says
Fabric Me! Beth means house of god, but I connect it more with my mother’s inspiration. As an english teacher and librarian she started out naming us girls after the sisters in Little Women. We have an Amy and a Beth, but then she switched for my last sister Holly. Oh well, I’m still accepting applications from good Jo’s and Meg’s if any are about.
Karla Gutierrez-Pugh says
FABRIC ME!
My mom just loved the name Karla and especially thought it was better spelled with a K. I hated it growing up, but I’ve grown to appreciate it.
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
My parents couldn’t decide on a name, Sarah just happened to be one they both liked. Too bad they had the same idea as every other parent who had a daughter in the early 80s! They had no idea it was so popular at the time.
Amanda G says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my great grandmother!
Sheila G says
FABRIC ME! Oh I love this shop and I have been ogling some fabrics on their site. Well my name is Irish and my mother liked the fact that no one she knew had this name…no bad associations. How about that for a fairly boring story!
Bee says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name is my great grandmother’s maiden name. It was my grandfather’s middle name, my mom’s, mine, and my daughter’s.
Jennie says
FABRIC ME!
My Mum told me that I have the same spelling of my name as Winston Churchill’s mother. Not exactly sure if that was the inspiration.
My middle name is Rebecca and I think that is because my Mum liked the book ‘Rebecca’ by Daphne du Maurier.
Carolina Casas says
Fabric Me!!! My first name is from a great aunt on my dads side but my 2 middle names are the names from each of my grandmothers. Yes I have 3 names before my last name… ufff enough said!!! jajajaja
Claire says
FABRIC ME!! My parents just liked it. My middle name is one of the great-grandmothers’ names. My husband’s family is Southern and really, really big on “family names”, so we’ll see how that affects our future children’s names!

Megan says
FABRIC ME!
I love that I’m named after both of my grandmothers. They were both Margaret and Megan is a form of that. They both mean ‘Pearl.’ My daughter is also Margaret, but we call her Maggie (unless she’s in trouble!). 3 generations of strong women. Makes me proud.
Meagan says
FABRIC ME!
My lovely parents (I really do adore them) were really into Rod Stewart around the time that I was born. One of his albums was the first gift my dad gave to my mom when they were dating. My mom loved the song “Maggie May” and that was just one of a couple of reasons I got my name…and yes, I have noted that the song is about an awful (older?) woman who seduced Rod and subsequently broke his heart :-) My mother is the only one allowed to call me Maggie.
Susan says
FABRIC ME! I don’t mind my name but its popularity dropped like a stone after the 60’s, and nobody gets named that anymore. It’s becoming an old-fashioned grandma name, like Harriet or Agatha! Oh well, it could have been worse…my mom was a free thinker and seriously considered naming me Ginkgo!
Carrie says

My first name is my maternal grandmother’s first name, my middle name is my paternal grandmother’s middle name = Carrie Marie
Megan says
Fabric me!
My middle name is Claire, named after my father’s baby sister who passed away when she was 10 months old. I have always wished I could have met the aunt she would have become, and I can only imagine how different our family would be with her a part of it!

Torill Smith says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a Scandinavian skiier. Although my name is Torill, I go by Tory. My mom made sure to spell my nickname with a “y” so on paper, people wouldn’t know if I was a man or woman. She didn’t want me to be discriminated against for being a girl!

My mom promised to name her children after St. Anne and had loved my name since she was 10 years old – my dad never even had a say!

I don’t think my parents chose my name for any special reason other than really liking it but the Jewish significance is that it translates in Hebrew as “G-d gives”!
Sarah R says
FABRIC ME!!

Jen says
FABRIC ME!
No meaning at all behind my name… just a child of the early 80s!
Molly C. says
FABRIC ME!
My name, Molly Marigold, is after my maternal great-grandmother’s first name, Marigold. I love its uniqueness, and sentimentality. Family members frequently say how I remind them of Great Grandma Goldie, with her spunk, quirkiness, and sass! Such a compliment :).
