After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Megan says
FABRIC ME!
No real meaning behind mine and I would argue my parents didn’t do the best job picking a name considering they only called me by my first name for 2 weeks before switching to my middle.
Veronica says
FABRIC ME!
I like my name because I’m Christian and my parents named me after St. Veronica, a woman who, according to Church tradition, wiped the face of Jesus on His way to Calvary and an image of His face appeared on her veil. So she was called Veri Cona (True Image) which evolved into the name Veronica.
Thanks for all the inspiration you guys give us!
Anjali says
FABRIC ME!
My name means light…I think!
Audrea says
FABRIC ME! .. my birthday is valentines day I was almost named Valen Tina. Luckily I got Audrea instead.
Fiona says
Fabric me!! My parents couldn’t think of a name so my 9yo sister named me after one of her nursery school friends.
Shannon says
FABRIC ME! I’m not sure how they came up with the name Shannon, but I do know that they had planned to name me April…and then I was born a month premature. :D
Kim says
Fabric Me! I think my mother picked my middle name, Jeneine, from a book she was reading when she was pregnant. For some reason, up til the book, I was going to be Holly Ann.
Amy F. says
FABRIC ME!
Not sure actually…my parents just liked the name! And I can’t complain, hey, it works.
Alena says
FABRIC ME!!
Liza says
Fabric Me! I was named after Liza Minnelli and I love my name, there are more songs with my name in them than I believe actual people named Liza.
Ryan says
FABRIC ME!
I’m fairly certain my parents just liked the way my name sounded.
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Sarah, which means “princess” which would never be a word that describes me. My mom wanted to name me Genevieve but my dad hated it. I wish my mom had won that battle. #callmegenevieveforshort
Jessica says
Fabric me! My middle name is my great grandmother’s and we just had a daughter and gave her the same middle name.
Meg Negrey says
FABRIC ME!
They picked my name over their other favorite since it didn’t end in the same letter my last name started with. Then I got married and now the last letter of my name matches my new last name. They should have just gone with their original choice.
Dana says
FABRIC ME! My brother was obsessed with the movie Ghost Busters and told my parents that he wanted to name me Dana. My dad says he new a hot girl in high school named Dana. So I guess he thought it was a good idea. I love my name now but when I was younger I wanted it to be Tiffany!
Michelle says
FABRIC ME!
Just learned that my name is of both French and Hebrew origin and means “who resembles God.” That’s deep! Oh man!
Neena says
FABRIC ME!
Rachel@hammeringourwayhome says
FABRIC ME! My dad had an Aunt Rachel, and throughout childhood all I ever heard was how amazing her chocolate chip cookies were. I’ve been working on perfecting my own batch for years. This Christmas my Uncle ate some and told me they tasted like hers. I swooned. It was overload awesomeness. Also, sidenote, I need this fabric! You just convinced me yesterday I CAN make my own curtains, and I’ve been searching fabric ever since. Loved seeing this contest. Fingers crossed!
Jenny Jenny says
My parents met at a bar and the first song they danced to was 867-5309 Jenny Jenny by Tommy Tutone and the rest is history. I like that my name has some meaning behind it and despite being average, I like it.
SarahC says
FABRIC ME! My name means princess. I like it, and it’s pretty convenient because most languages have an equivalent, so travel is easy. But growing up, I always hated that there were so many Sarahs in the same class!
Taryn says
FABRIC ME!
My name is a combination of my mom’s first and middle name: Teri Lynn.
Anna L says
FABRIC ME! My middle name, Blythe, is not a family name although I get asked that all the time. I love it so much that I named my daughter Blythe as well!
Candice says
FABRIC ME! My first name is actually what the female rulers of the ancient African empire of Kush were called. Not that my parents knew that when they chose my name (maybe they did instinctively, at least that’s what I like to tell my husband).
Darlene says
FABRIC ME!!!
I’m one of three in my family with this name. I’m the only one that uses it…..but it was my mom’s name and then her sister used it too for her daughter.
Brittney says
Fabric me!!
My mom thought I was a boy (woot woot for the baaad 1983 ultrasound technology) so she had only picked out boy names. Brittney came from a soap opera actress and that’s really the name story of me. :)
Talia says
FABRIC ME!
My mom liked the name Talia so much one night after watching a Rocky movie (Adrian’s real name is Talia Shire) that she taped my name everywhere around the house (coffee maker, fridge, you name it!)…it wasn’t long before my dad caved and went for the name too!
Jamie says
FABRIC ME!
I was born in the 70’s, or pre-ultrasounds, :) so my parents picked a gender nonspecific first name, with only the middle name changing. This mildly backfired on them when growing up I would get form letters addressed to Mr. Jamie ___, but on the whole I think it was a good choice.
Netty says
FABRIC ME!
My name came from my dad who liked the girls name “Annette”
Melissa S says
FABRIC ME!
Anne in SC says
Fabric me. I’m from a large Catholic family–so most of us are named after Saints.
Ash Cole says
I’ve read my name means Ash trees, but my parents picked it from a soap opera :) My middle name is Cole, so my brothers always teased me with “Ash Cole Burn” lol!!! I used to wish I had been named something else, but I have grown to like my simple name :)
Ash Cole says
Almost forgot my “Fabric Me”!!!! :)
Kimberj says
Fabric Me!!! My first name has no special anything behind or about it but our last name, Jameyson, has some real history. Its the original Scottish spelling before the English and Irish starting phutzing around with it. The Jameyson clan was a subset of the larger Wallace clan. Yes, as in William Wallace of Braveheart! We went over to Scotland and got the full scoop at the museum that houses his original sword as well as his history :)
nancy says
FABRIC ME! Obviously I fell victim to a popular name syndrome since the vast majority are all the same age. I’ve always hated it and hate it now as it identifies my probable age.
Samantha Hunter says
Fabric Me! My dad wanted to name me – read for this? Norma Jean Amel (first name) Josephine Jeanine (Middle) Buescher (last) talk about a mouthful! It was his sweet way of trying to incorporate lots of grandparent names.
So then it turned to Joesphine Jeanine, after my maternal grandmother. My mom said “No, then people will call here Joe which is a boys name, or Josie like the pussycats.” So they named me Samantha Jeanine – and everyone calls me Sam. My mom blamed the hormones.
Joespehine Jeanine though – my grandma’s name and my middle name were both after songs. My great grandparents loved dancing, and the first slow song they danced to was “Jeanine my Queen of Lilac Time”. Joesephine is from an old song about a dancing cow apparently. I love my name! My grnadmother was so honored that I shared her middle name and always called me Sami Jean because of it – when I got married I refused to take my maiden as my middle because of if. I love that I have her name with me always.
Amy says
FABRIC ME!
My mother chose my name from the book Little Women! She is named for Meg from the same book. The funny part is, in the book Amy is totally a brat!! I was really sad about this when I was younger, and used to apologise for her a lot!
abbi says
FABRIC ME!
I wasn’t named for 2 days, and then someone said “Abbi” and my mom liked it and went with it. She told me that I’m Abbi and not Abigail because she kept it short and easy to spell (she did the same with my sister Jeni).
Jenna says
FABRIC ME!
2 stories: 1. I was named after Priscilla Preston’s character on Dallas (spelled differently). And, 2. The pronunciation of my name in Arabic means “fruit of paradise.” When I was in Egypt, everyone looked at me crazy-like when I told them what my name was. :)
Heather says
Fabric me!!!
My name, Heather, comes from the little purple flower my mother saw when she was just weeks away from having me. My parents had decided to name me Molly, but when she saw those little flowers she changed her mind. I do, however, love the name Molly and named my first puppy Molly (sadly she just passed away from sudden kidney failure in December).
Beth T. says
FABRIC ME!!
My name is after both grandmothers.
Kim Bauer says
Fabric Me! I was named for my moms best childhood friend. My mom was raised by her grandparents and after a car wreck that killed her grandmother and injured my mom and her grandmfather, this friends family took her in to live with them while she recovered. I’ve never met my namesake, but I hear she is a wonderful person.
heather says
FABRIC ME!
My mom knew a sweet girl with my name and she liked the way it sounded. However, it’s actually a type of plant. Haha wish there was a little more reasoning behind it:)
Diana says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me Diana because they liked the name. I love the Roman/Greek goddess connection (Diana = Artemis) and love reading the mythology.
Gwendolyn says
FABRIC ME!
No special story behind my name. My mom just likes old-fashioned names. I like it, though… it’s unique enough, but not too weird.
Stephie @ ThriftandStyle says
oooo I don’t normally enter the give aways but I would love some more fabric to jump start some sewing projects I’m eyeing so…
Fabric me, please :)
My full name Stephanie Ellen has a few meanings. My mom’s favorite cousin Sylvia passed away from cancer before I was born so she took the S from that for Stephanie. My middle name Ellen is for both of my great Aunt Helens (I guess they thought Helen was too old school?)
Rebecca in WA says
Fabric me! My name is pretty standard, but it works for me!
Sarah F. says
FABRIC ME!
My name means princess. It’s always been my parent’s nickname for me too. Luckily I wasn’t spoiled and treated like a princess (at least not too often).
Julia says
Fabric me! I am totally named after that Beatles song.
Cc says
Fabric me! I don’t have a middle name because my parents didn’t know they were a thing at the time
Paula says
Fabric me!
For most, Paula is the feminine version of Paul…but there’s more. It means ‘little, small’ as in pauper and paucity. While it may be outdated (according to ALL of my baby naming books and websites) I love it. My parents chose it because of its international appeal, it can be pronounced by all of our relatives from Spanish to our Eastern European ones.
Ps- I was always serenaded by the fraternity boys. ‘Hey, Hey Paula’ never got old!!
Amy S says
Fabric me!
Amy is after my grandmother’s younger sister, Alma, who was killed during the holocaust. Amazing thing is that I look just like her (I am the only one out of my sibs who does!)
