After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric Me, please!
No exciting story behind my name. Just a name my mom had loved for a long time!
Ethne @ Wom-Mom says
PS, you totally don’t have to publish my previous comment. I just think it’s interesting and, well, you asked!
Laurel says
FABRIC ME!!
Nothing interesting behind my name, but I have wished for a different name at times because people can’t seem to understand it or spell it for some reason.
Laura says
FABRIC ME! Victory! (for the laurel crowns given to victors in ancient times)
Audrey says
Fabric Me!
My mom was reading names out of a baby book to my dad and he loved it… after that it just kinda stuck.
Becca says
FaBrIc Me!
I went home from the hospital without a name but it wasn’t long before my Grandmother’s suggestion of Rebecca was put into place. However, my dad’s only stipulation was…”She can never go by Becky.”
Ok, dad!
Shannon says
FABRIC ME!!!
I am pretty sure I am named after a 70’s song, with a dog named Shannon who dies!! So, so sad. Apparently my mom thought the name was pretty, despite the depressing story. ;)

Fabric Me!
Ash says
Fabric Me!
My name, Ashley, came about because my parents couldn’t decide between Alicia and Leslie, and Ashley seemed to be a combination of both of those options (also, they thought I would be a boy, so they had to choose something quickly). AND they thought they picked a name my brothers and sisters couldn’t nickname or tease me – apparently they didn’t think of things like “Ashes” or “Ashtray!”
Adrienne says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “Latin rich, wealthy, dark one”…sadly(?) I am none of these things!
tina says
FABRIC ME!
No cool story here, they couldn’t decide until they heard it. They both ended up liking it, so Tina I became.
Jenn says
{{{Faaab-ric me}}}
Well. I have a plain Jane name. The name’s “Jennifer”. I was born in 1972 & I think every girl born between 1970-1975 was named “Jennifer”. If not, they got lucky & were named “Jenny”. ????
My parents thought I was going to be a boy, so their name of choice was “Ricky”. Then, when they found out I was a girl, my aunt begged them to name me “Candy”. As in “candy” that one eats. Needless to say, I am elated I was named plain Jane “Jennifer” over “Ricky” or “Candy”. So, my name has no particular, amazing meaning. But, we always get a good laugh over what sweet “Candy” would have been like!
Sara says
FABRIC ME! Sarah was my mom’s great-aunt and my parents really liked the name. They left the “h” off my name because my maiden name started with an “h” and my folks thought two h’s next to each other would look weird.
Kelli says
FABRIC ME! My parents just liked my name. I always wished it was something a little more special.
Alex a says
Fabric me!! I’m named after my great grandpa (I’m a girl). The first name works, but combined with the boy middle name, everyone is surprised when they see me show up instead of a man!
Betsy says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my great aunt Eleanor Elizabeth, an amazing woman and role model!
Shubha says
FABRIC ME!
Shubha is Hindi for ‘auspicious’ – and that’s what I say to myself when times are hard :)
Cortney says
Fabric me!! My name is spelled wrong according to most of the world. No U. Just Cortney. I’ve dealt with this “mis-spelling” f-o-r-e-v-e-r. My college roommate & now sister in law is named Courtney, avec U. It doesn’t mean anything fancy, from the court, I think. BUT I admit: the first time I saw Cortney Novogratz in print, I was both delighted, and like–hey, that’s MY name!!
Alicia Behrends says
FABRIC ME!
My mother named me after her aunt Alice, my name is a spin off of it.
Trish Olive says
FABRIC ME!
Melanie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents just liked the first name, but I share my middle name with my aunt who came to stay and help when I was born!
Kim says
fabric me!
My parents were going to name me Krista, but when I arrived, they decided I looked like a Kimberly instead.
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!
Not sure about my first name, but my middle name came from a distant relative.
Janelle Kay says
Fabric Me!
Jo Connor says
FABRIC ME! My sister got the exotic name, I got eh noring one with no real meaning!
Nikki W. says
FABRIC ME!
Melissa says
Fabric Me! No real meaning behind my name. My parents were told that I was going to be a boy, so I was named by my dad at the last minute.
Amy E. says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my great-grandmother Amelia. I got a lot of Amelia Bedilia and Amelia Erhart growing up. My dad likes to tell the story about how i was almost named Gertrude. I’m pretty sure i would have had my name made fun of at least as much if not more than i experienced as an Amelia.
Kristi says
FABRIC ME!!
Lara says
FABRIC ME!
My name comes from the story Dr. Zhivago. Unfortunately more than half the people in my life pronounce my name incorrectly–as Laura. Ya so that sucks.
Cindy says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “light in the darkness.”
Jamie says
FABRIC ME!
My name is the feminine version of my father’s, James. And my mother tells me I wanted to be called Jenny or Amy when I was younger.
Ashley says
FABRIC ME! My name, Ashley, was picked by my mom after much thought and consideration…NOT! I was named after a character in her favorite soap opera…it was the 80’s:) I would love to have a more unique name like Marley.
jae says
FABRIC ME!
Kate says
FABRIC ME!
My parents just liked the name. My middle name is a family name though!
Tara says
FABRIC ME!!! I’m pretty sure my parents just picked my name because they liked it, but I am constantly asked if it is from Gone with the Wind.
Katie O says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me after my paternal grandfather’s mom. Not super exciting, but I’ll take it.
romy says
“FABRIC ME!” My name is Romina /roh-MEE-n?/, my father pick it after Tyrone Power’s Daughter. Since I was a child my parents told me is was an arabic name, all in my family have christian names, but it’s meaning is “woman who came from christian lands” … Later I learnt that in Arabic and Farsi it means “Polished, cleaned, brightened” I prefer the first option, the second one kinda makes me feel like a chemical product. After a hard childhood (I hated it, and I don’t have a middle name)… I grew up to appreciate it (maybe cause it’s the only nae I have ;P),the only negative thing about it is that people in the USA find it hard to pronunce, they call me Gomina, Romola, Ramena etc.
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!
My mom was watching Gunsmoke when she was pregnant, and she saw that Miss Kitty was the actress Amanda Blake – she loved it. And so, I’m Amanda (Marie, not Blake, thankfully).
My name’s fine, I don’t have strong feelings either way on it. It was in the top 3 of names the entire time I was growing up, so it’s not very original. At least the story is!
Jordan says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Jordan and growing up I always hated it and wanted to change it because it was a “boys name”! Now, one of my closest friends name is Jordan (who is also female) and I love that it is unique enough with people in my age group!
Kylie S says
FABRIC ME!
My mom used to teach leadership and team-building workshops for professionals in her field. One of her students (before I was a twinkle in her eye) was named Kylie. She loved the student and thought the name was beautiful. My parents were prepared to name me Alex because they had been told I was a boy. WRONG! When I popped out as a girl, they named me Kylie :)
Renske says
Fabric me! My name means something like ‘crowned with laurels’. My parents just liked the name and it rimes with nothing, so that’s nice too:)
Emily says
FABRIC ME! My full name is Emily Ann. At the time, it was my mom’s favorite character on some daytime Soap!
Kate C says
Fabric me! I love my name! It’s Kate and nothing more. Strong but feminine. I often get asked if it’s Katherine, but my mom knew she’d call me Kate and figured there was no reason to give me a longer version. I love that.
Jen Bishop says
Fabric me! My parents just liked the name Jennifer and apparently a lot of other people in the 70’s did too! There were always 3 to five of us in the classroom. Thank you!!!!
Brittany says
Fabric me!! My mom named me after the province in France, but nowadays all people think of when they hear my name is Ms Spears.
Alexandra says
FABRIC ME! My first name means “defender of mankind” and my parents had so much trouble agreeing on a first name that they didn’t bother giving me a middle one :)
Susie says
FABRIC ME! I have always hated my name. When I was in Kindergarten I tried to change my name to Dianne. The teacher didn’t go for it….
Liz C. says
Fabric me!
I have the same name as my mom :)
Laura P says
Fabric Me! I was named after Laura from Little House on the Prarie… but I do wish I was named something a little more fun!
