After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!! I’m named after Ashley from Y&R – yes, my mother was a Soap addict, lol! Seriously, though…I’m dying to win this one. I want to wallpaper the back of my built-ins with fabric!!! Yes Please!!!
Jennifer I. says
FABRIC ME! My parents thought I was going to be a boy (didn’t find out til I was born) and were going to name me Joey. Instead, I am a girl and they decided on Jennifer, thinking they’d call me Jenny. That never happened and I’m just always called Jennifer.
MamaMeg says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name is just one my mom loved, and my dad agreed to.
Allison says
FABRIC ME
I got my name while my mom was watching Star Search the day after I was born in the hospital and the nurses needed a name to put on the certificate!
Adena says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a lady my mom worked for before she was married
Joan says
FABRIC ME!
I don’t know why they pick my name. Now I’ll have to ask them!
Cat Johnsen says
FABRIC ME! Full name is Catherine which means “pure.” I was named after my grandmother Mary Catherine who has the same birthday as me!
Cristina says
FABRIC ME!
My name has sadly no special meaning to our family and I think my parents just liked its pronunciation.
It’s a common enough name, so as a kid I didn’t particularly like it, but I also didn’t dislike it. What did sometimes annoy me was that I share the initials with my older brother (which was an advantage for my parents because they didn’t have to re-label the clothes when they passed from one kid to the next. My little sister’s name starts with a G, so they only had to draw a line to adapt it.)
shana says
Fabric me! I was named after The journalist Shana Leigh Alexander.
Nicole says
FABRIC ME!
… And I’m named after Nicole “Nikki” Newman (née Reed; formerly Foster, Bancroft, DiSalvo, Landers, Chow, Sharpe and Abbott) from the Young and the Restless. (I had no idea she had such a lengthy history!)
Louise says
Fabric Me!
My name is a combination of my maternal and paternal grandmother. I’m actually the 3rd Mary in my family and my daughter is the 4th. It may not be creative but it made my family feel so honored.
Kati says
FABRIC ME!!
My dad picked “Katie” but my mom thought it would be easier spelled without the “e”, she was incorrect ;)
Shayna says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after one of my maternal grandmother’s sisters who perished in the Holocaust, so the name has a lot of significance to me and my family.
tiffany says
“FABRIC ME!” Nothing special about my name I believe. I was supposed to be “Monique” but my daddy veto-ed that name real quick!
Jenna says
FABRIC ME!
There is no exciting back story behind my name, my mom just thought it was pretty. However, the meaning of my first and middle name together is small bird in the meadow–which I’ve always found amusing!
Carey-Jane Sinke says
Fabric Me!!:)
My I am named after my dad (Casey) and mom (Jane). I hated it when I was younger, especially in my babysitter club days when I desperately wanted to be called Stacey. Now I love being named after both my parents…although most people I introduce myself to get it wrong the first couple times…”nope, not Mary-Jane or Carey-Anne or Terry-Jane- but so close!:)”
Michelle says
FABRIC ME!
My name was a last minute decision since my mom didn’t know she was having twins! That worked out for the best because my sister and I don’t have matchy cute twin names that you get to come up with when you know you’re having twins!
Rachel says
FABRIC ME!!!! My parents picked the name Rachel Elizabeth, and then later found out from my grandfather, that Rachel Elizabeth was my great-great-great grandmother…kinda cool :)
Alyssa says
FABRIC ME!
Lisa E says
FABRIC ME!!!! My name was a mistake! They wanted Liza, apparently the nurse wrote down the wrong name and my parents decided to keep it! Just as after one boy and three girls in a row, when I came along, my dad wanted another boy. However, after seeing me and holding me, he said, “Awww, we can keep her.” It’s funny, because we know he would never consider getting rid of me, but some times you say things in the heat of the moment! :)
Lisa P. says
FABRIC ME – no idea how I got my name, but I suspect it was after Elvis’s daughter. And I grew up with at least 3 Lisa Maries in every class. So yes, I always wished it was something more unique.
Andrea says
Fabric me please!
Somer says
FABRIC ME!
My name was my grandfather’s middle name … and I found out a while ago that it’s also the middle English spelling of the season.
Jayme says
FABRIC ME!
I’ve got a few different meanings to my name. First! I’m named after my grandfathers, Jim and Jack. Jim said “If she’s going to be named after me, I get to pick how it’s spelled, and if there are going to be 5 other ‘Jamie’s’ running around in her kindergarten class, she’s gotta be different somehow”, which is why it’s Jayme (the correct, spell-it-like-it-sounds way). Second! Jayme wasn’t what my name was supposed to be originally. It was really supposed to be Samantha, but when I was born I was so small that my Dad said Samantha was far too big of a name for such a little girl. Third! Lynn is my middle name, which is my Dad’s nickname for my momma (Linda). Lots of meaning in this girls’ name!
Catrina Gomez says
Fabric Me! I’m named after my great-grandmother Catherine, but my dad is Italian so they named me the Italian version of Catherine (Caterina), but without the ‘e’ because they didn’t think people would pronounce it correctly (they were probably right).
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
Meh – Katie seemed like a pretty common name to me – especially because there were 4 other Katies in my kindergarten class. Maybe thats why I’m so drawn to more less common names when I have kids.
PK says
FABRIC ME!
No name story. :(
David W. says
FABRIC ME!
I am proudly named after my grandfather.
Marie says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Marie Kathleen and my mom’s name is Kathleen Marie…barf! Haha…actually I think my dad picked out my 1st name. When I was 10, I convinced my parents to let me change my name to Kate, but then felt instant guilt and never actually did it.
Jessi says
Fabric me!!! My name is so common…Jessica. Apparently there was some model/actress big when I was born (late 70s). In middle school there was 4 Jessicas in my class, fortunately we all have different last initials. I have been called Jessica Hahn (had to google that) and Jessica Rabbit so nothing good has come from having my name :(
Sarah says
Fabric me!
A 250.00 gift card would be super awesome because my hubby would be happy that I’m not spending his golf money and he would quit calling me mud. :)
Lissete says
FABRIC ME!
My name’s origin is Hebrew and it means God is satisfaction or oath of God. My mom heard it in a Novela (Mexican soap opera) when she was pregnant and loved it!
Chelsea says
FABRIC ME! My mom named me after a character on a soap opera, haha.
Meghan A says
FABRIC ME!
My mom choose it because she liked it from the book Little Women, and they spelt it with an H, due to our Scottish ancestry. I love it :)
Erin says
FABRIC ME! My first name is Erin, and it means Peaceful. Or Ireland. Or something. I don’t know. My parents picked it because they liked it, and I’ve grown to like it quite a bit, too. When I was a little kid back in the 80s, though, I REALLY wanted my name to be Stacey (favorite BSC character, obviously), or Crystal, because that’s what I thought princesses were named. It’s hard to believe I used to be so profoundly cool…
Lindsay J says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose my first name because Lindsay Wagner was popular after her appearance in ‘Bionic Woman’. My middle name (Michele) was chosen because it was the girl version of Michael; which was my brother’s name who passed away before I was born.
Ursula says
Fabric me! Ursula is a family name, I used to hate it when I was younger but I loveeeee it now!
David B says
FABRIC ME!
Erica says
FABRIC ME!!
Julie says
Fabric me!! No cool story… My parents just liked it.
Mike says
FABRIC ME!
My wife has been wanting to make curtains really bad and we are going to be having a baby in June and first on the list is curtains for the nursery!
Mary Allison Welden says
“FABRIC ME!” When I was born my parents couldnt decide on a name for me and the hospital would not release you until you had a name. My parents both wrote down a list of their favorite names without discussing with eachother and Mary Allison was on both of their lists.
Anu says
Fabric me !!
Beth says
FABRIC ME!
No great story here. All I can get out of my parents is that my Dad liked the name. When questioned further, he has no further explanation. :)
Whitney J says
Fabric Me! My name is just one my mom liked. Only one in the family not named after anyone.
Holly says
FABRIC ME…I was born at Christmas time…thus the name.
Carin Young says
FABRIC ME!!! My parents wanted a “c ” name but were having a hard time agreeing on one. My dad saw my name in a car magazine spelled with a k and simply changed it to a c. I was named after a French race car. How’s that for unique. Oddly everyone usually calls me Karen but I traveled to France at age 17 and upon viewing my name tag they would always pronounce my name properly. It was wonderful!
Keri says
FABRIC ME!
While my mother was unconscious from her c-section my grandmother (dad’s mom) took it upon herself to name me “Keri” (my mother picked Brittany). My grandmother said there was a one armed cashier at the local Farm Fresh with that name and she loved it. It actually went okay with my mom because she had an imaginary friend named “Carrie” when she was a little girl, something her mother-in-law didn’t know. So I’m her imaginary friend come to my life!
Kristin says
FABRIC ME! My mother insisted on the “alternate” spelling of my name (which has since seemed to become the norm). I was the only Kristin (of any spelling) in my school from kindergarten through high school. Then I got to college and found out we’re everywhere!
Molly says
Fabric Me!
I am the 7th Margaret on my Mom’s side of the family. I never loved my name growing up but when I found out I was pregnant with a daughter I knew instantly what her first name would be. I was proud to carry on the tradition and make her the 8th in the family, even though we call her Campbell, is will tell you her name is Margaret Campbell!
