After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Danielle says
“FABRIC ME!” and my name, Danielle, means “Judged by God”. Right. Exactly. I ask my mom continually why she thought I should have a name that gets EXTRA judgement. As if there isn’t enough already. :-)
Angela Emory says
FABRIC ME!
There’s nothing too interesting about my name. My mom did have another name picked before I was born, but the day I was born she didn’t realize there were 2 babies in her belly. And because I ended up being a twin she wanted our initials to be the same so she came up with Angela(me) and Allison (my twin).
Nikki says
FABRIC ME!!!!
My name apparently wasn’t memorable enough. My mother, bless her, has never been able to reliably recall it. Half the time she would call me ‘Juliet’, her younger sister’s name!
Carmen says
FABRIC ME! It’s a family name that mom recently told me, “I had no idea what I’d name you if you turned out to be a boy”…
ali says
FABRIC ME! I think my parents just liked my name when they named me, no particular significance (which is as great a reason as any!)
Kimber says
FABRIC ME!
Jenna says
FABRIC ME!
My first name is based off of my grandmothers name, Jeanette, and my middle name, Lynn, was after the lady who taught my brother and parents sign language when my parents found out my brother was deaf.
Alissa says
FABRIC ME! I am named after my paternal grandmother, Alice. She passed away before I was born, but I am still able to feel a connection to my ancestry through my name.
Melanie A. says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after Melanie from Gone With The Wind! My mom had a slight obsession with the book. Sadly, I’ve never (yet) read the book or seen the movie…I know, missing out.
Angela says
FABRIC ME!
My mom had a dream that this is what my name needed to be and my dad went with it. Good thing it wasn’t one of those crazy pregnancy dreams with a crazy name!
Kim says
FABRIC ME!
My mom just liked my name, and it doesn’t have any significance or meaning (that I know of). What is kind of interesting is that a couple years later, when she reconnected with two old high school friends, they learned they’d all had daughters within a few months of each other and all named them Kimberly :)
I didn’t like my name for a period of time (4th/5th grade?) and wished my mom had named me Barbara. hahaha I’m definitely not a Barbie kind of girl, so no idea where that came from.
I would SO love to win this time! I am in dire need of fabric to reupholster some furniture!
Rachel says
FABRIC ME! My name means ‘ewe’ in Hebrew. Yes….ewe (a female sheep). As in very close to ewww. I never escape that joke. Lovely meaning, huh? I’m not sure what’s worse: a female sheep or a synonym for gross haha.
erin says
Fabric Me! My mom wanted Velveeta (true story) my dad wanted Erin. He won, thank God!
Caitlyn says
FABRIC ME! My first name, apparently, comes from some 80s TV show that my mom liked (I can’t remember what it was), and my middle name is my aunt’s first name. When I was younger she always liked to introduce me to her friends with my full name, plenty of emphasis on my middle name.
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
Well…my mom wanted to name me Lacy Ann and my dad wanted a Robin (which was an ex-girlfriend). They agreen on Erin and I am eternally grateful! Lacy Ann sounds like I would be on the pole and Robin is just too boring. Erin is just the right mix of different and mainstream. And it means “Peace” in Gaelic.
Lindsey says
Fabric Me! (This would be a great win since I already have things picked out for curtains in my bedroom!)
My name was my Grandmother’s maiden name, so my mom picked it out when she was 14!
Am says
Fabric me! My dad named me.
Brooke says
FABRIC ME!!!
Jenny says
Fabric me! My name was picked by my dad in a dream! It was on their list, but that made it official.
Adira benKlifa says
Adira means greatness in Hebrew.
Leah says
FABRIC ME!!!
At my dad’s office, a woman named Leigh was always being paged over the intercom, and my dad came home and told my mom, “If it’s a girl we should call her Leigh with an ‘a’ on the end: Leigha,” thinking that he’d made the name up. My mom told him that it was a real name already and it was spelled Leah. I’m glad he “came up” with that because before that I was supposed to be one of the thousands of Jessicas.
keegan says
fabric me!
my parents chose it because it means “little fiery one” in gaelic, which i still love.
Margaret says
FABRIC ME!
If I was a boy I would have been Jason, SOOO glad I was a girl, hee!!
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents saw my name on a grocery cashier and loved it – they’re a little quirky =)
Christina M. says
FABRIC ME! I think I was named after a soap opera character in the early 80’s….haha.
Tricia says
FABRIC ME!!!
My middle name Helen is a tribute to both my grandmothers and my greatgrandmother. Neither grandmother could figure out why my parents gave me such an old fashioned middle name. My greatgrandmother loved that they used the name. I also like that it gives me a great way to remember them all!!
Sherri says
FABRIC ME!
My Mom still didn’t have a name picked out for me when she entered the hospital in labor to have me. It was while she was there that she saw the name “Sherri” of a character in the comics of the newspaper! Seriously, how many people are named after a comic strip character, lol!
Mallory Ethridge says
FABRIC ME!
My parents didn’t find out if I was a boy or a girl because they felt there are so few good suprises in life they didn’t want to spoil one! They (and everyone else) thought I was going to be a boy! So they told everyone I was going to be Luke, well to their surprise I was a girl! They had always liked the name Mallory but it was also my mom’s best friends name!
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Sarah, the most popular name of my generation. I mean, at least I can get key chains with my name on it, but it sucks getting called by your last name in grade 3 to differentiate you from the other FOUR Sarahs in your class!
Laurie says
Fabric Me!!
I’m named after my nonna (mom’s mom)and she was a seamstress and an amazing dressmaker. So this is quite fitting since she and my mom taught me to sew.
Anna says
FABRIC ME!
Anna = graceful one… however I am definitely far from graceful!
Kim says
FABRIC ME!!! My name doesn’t have much meaning, other than it was almost Anastasia and last minute changed to Kimberly :) But my 3 childrens’ middle names all have ties to other family members – my oldest’s middle name (Martin)is his dad’s middle name as well as his grandpa’s first name; my middle child’s middle name (Joseph)is a male version of his grandmom’s first name Josephine as well as his other grandpa’s confirmation name; my third child’s middle name (Michelle) is my own middle name. :)
crystal b says
FABRIC ME!!
I was named after Crystal Gayle, a famous singer from the 80s. She’s gorgeous, so I’ll let it slide.
LindsayR says
“FABRIC ME”
I was named after a soap opera star from the 80’s. My parents were super original!
Marcy L says
FABRIC ME!
Not a clue what my name means, but I think my dad had an exgirlfriend who had a sister named Marcie…. WEIRD right?
Casey Severinghaus says
FABRIC ME!!!!
Wendy says
Fabric me!
No significance behind my name. My mom tells me she almost called me Heather, but after she took one look at me, I didn’t look like a Heather.
Ashley says
FABRIC ME! My parents say my name used to be for only boys, which made them think it would be unique for girls. They were wrong.
Panharath Sokhom says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name was picked by a monk. Because I’m a Thursday born daughter, he suggested any name begins with “B” or “P” is the best. So my dad picked “Panharath Sokhom”:
. Panha = Intelligence.
. Rath = Jewel, Wealth.. etc.
So, Panharath means I have my intelligence as my wealth.
P.S. I’ve been following your blog from time to time. My husband and I are inspired by your blog. I just got here in U.S. and we just got our little house to start our life, and will make it home. I have no sofas, I have no dining table… etc and the first project I’m starting now is CURTAIN. I just got the sewing machine and this Saturday, I will do fabric shopping! Surprisingly my husband told me that your lastest project is CURTAIN too!!!!
Again, thank you for your beautiful blog!
Love.
Mary says
Fabric Me!
My name is Mary. My grandmother’s name, my aunt’s name, and a great-aunt are named Mary. Keeping the name in the family!
Brittany says
FABRIC ME!
I have no idea what it means (other than to identify me as a child of the 80’s), and I’ve always wanted it to be a little more unique.
Allison says
Fabric me, please! :)
My name is Allison, and my dad’s name is Allan, so I kinda inherited the “All” part I guess. And my middle name is Elaine, inherited after being born on the same day as my Aunt Elaine. :)
Harmony says
Fabric Me! I was born naturally at home and after the birth my mom says that “the holy spirit whispered my name in her ear.” My mom is awesome.
Becky says
Fabric Me! The name Rebecca was always one my parents liked. I like it, just wish it wasn’t the same as so many other people I know. Nothing like being in the same room with a million other Becky’s.
Cat Dobson says
Fabric Me!!
My full name is Catarina which is 8 generations back on both my mom’s AND dad’s side, so I think they took it as a sign. I definitely hated it growing up, mainly because no one could pronounce it correctly, and I decided I wanted to go by Brianna. But now I love it and after having my own daughter know the care that went in to choosing it!
Carin says
Fabric me! My parents can’t remember where they got my name. It has definitly made life interesting as it is pronounced like Corrine rather than Karen (which everyone assumes).
Jacy says
FABRIC ME!
My name was inspired by the massage parlor next to my parents very first apartment. “Massage by Jacy.” Scary but true! Good thing I love my name!
Juliette says
FABRIC ME! Please!
My name is Juliette – my parents were hippies. I used to hate my name growing up, for obvious reasons, but I have come to love it!
Anissa says
FABRIC ME! Anissa is Arabic and means “flawless diamond” apparently it’s really popular in Middle Eastern countries. But my parents were raised in Milwaukee and have never stepped foot in the Middle East LOL. They got my name from the the little girl in the tv show “A Family Affair”. I googled her and apparently she overdosed on drugs. I’m happy to say I didn’t follow in my namesakes foot steps :).
Jessica says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name is Jessica Sarah…. the funny story behind it is that my grandmother wanted my parents to name me Sarah Jessica so when I was being born and she was watching my brother at home, she drilled that into his head. So when my parents brought me home from the hospital, my brother called me Sarah for weeks! :)
