After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Gracie P says
Fabric Me! I’m named after my Great, Great Grandmother on my mom’s side.
Amanda says
Fabric me! My name came straight out of a baby name book. It’s very ‘original’ :)
Cathy says
Fabric mee!
Boring, but they just liked my name
Estrella Maria says
FABRIC ME!
Estrella and Maria were the names of my two grandmothers. I’ve always been so proud of that! :)
Raisa says
Fabric Me!
My poor sofa has a hole in the upholstery, and wishes he could put his own name in for this contest–except that I neglectfully haven’t named him anything.
My parents named me after my great-grandmother, who immigrated to the US (and Americanized her name to Rose) at the turn of the twentieth century.
Kate says
Fabric me! My name is my godmother’s name and since she did not have children of her own, I was very honored to be named after such a special person.
Melanie says
FABRIC ME!
I’m adopted and my parents didn’t have much warning they were getting me (as in 2 days warning), so they didn’t have names planned. My mom was brainstorming things like Sara Elizabeth or even using my last name as my first name as well (because our last name is often a first name… but I’m glad I didn’t end up being named like an 80s band – The The or Duran Duran!). But my dad, whose name was Melvin, said he wanted to name me after him. Mom shouted, “We are NOT naming her Melvina!” -_- To which he replaied, “Er… no, I meant Melanie.” And that’s that.
Sarah says
FABRIC ME! My middle name is from my Mom’s middle name: Lynn. Love it! When I go out to visit her family in outstate Minnesota, they always refer to all the women by their first and middle names, so I become “Sarah Lynn.” It makes me smile, because beyond that, I never really hear the name spoken out loud.
Sarah Jadeed says
FABRIC ME! My mother had three children, none of whom were named by her. Various relatives demanded to name us. I was named by my maternal grandmother, Shirley. As a newlywed, I don’t think I’ll allow that to happen with my own children.
Christina says
Fabric ME! Please!!!!! I was named after my grandmother.
Melissa says
FABRIC ME!!
There’s no special meaning behind my name; my older sister chose it!
Betsy says
FABRIC ME!
My mom didn’t like a lot of the nicknames from Elizabeth, so she just went with Betsy. I’m the 5th generation with my middle name, Clara, which obviously, you can’t go wrong with.
Shannon says
FABRIC ME!
I used to hate my name b/c so many boys had it when I was growing up but now I love it and it suits my personality and hints at my Irish roots, and um, temper.
Sherri says
FABRIC ME!…please….
Well you probably already know the meaning of my name :) but it means “dear”. Awww. I don’t know why my parents chose my name but I’m good with it. Could be worse! I do know that they were debating on nameing me Julie. Sherri is much better and less common which is good.
Emily says
FABRIC ME! There’s no huge significance to my name. My parents just liked it. My mom had a friend in high school named Emily so it’s sort’ve after her, but not really. At any rate, I like my name…good job, parents! :)
Denise Pedersen says
Fabric Me!! nothing unusual about my name, but how about that my older brother is named Dennis….have heard the Deneice and Denephew joke a few times in my life!
Taylor says
FABRIC ME!! The name Taylor is my maternal grandmother’s maiden name. My parents were worried I would not like the name since it was not a girls name long ago when I was born. When I switched elementary schools I was placed on the boys side of the room in music class the first day – how traumatic. I do love my name though!
Anne says
Love my name. Don’t wish it was anything else. My first name was something the family agreed on (three older brother got to weigh in so it could have been worse!) as long as my middle name was my mom’s first name. It’s very special so much so I think I’m going to carry on the tradition.
Amanda says
Fabric me! My middle name is after my grandma Claire!
Grace says
FABRIC ME!
Sydney says
FABRIC ME!
My name came from a soap opera my mom liked to watch while she was pregnant!
jennfer g says
fabric me!
my mom was going to name me mary after my grandmother, but went with jennifer suzanne instead. my brother and cousin thought it would be cute to have a little jenny sue in the family and they called me that for years.
Kayla says
I dont think that my name has any special meaning to my partents. My mom did want to name me Cinnamon but my dad wouldn’t agree.
Kate says
FABRIC ME! My mother says she was specific in wanting to name me “Kate” not Katherine, etc. — simple, fun & preppy! It fits! :)
Susan D says
Fabric Me!
Susan (lily) Marie (bitter)….I am a bitter lily :)
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
There isn’t anything special about my name, other than my parents liked it. I was the third girl (and two more came after me) so I’m sure the favorite girl names had already been used up.
Tracey says
FABRIC ME!
Apparently my mom named all of her baby dolls Tracey when she was a kid and always knew that would be the name of her daughter one day.
Cathy says
FABRIC ME! My Chinese name means “Grass at Dawn”, which means “a new beginning”. My grandfather who named me loves poetry so he incorporated that into each of our names (my brother and sister’s too).
Leah says
FABRIC ME! My parents just loved it, but I think they did like that it is a biblical name. Although, I never liked it in Sunday School when they told the story about how Jacob wanted to marry Rachel, but got tricked into marrying Leah… Middle name is after my great aunt!
Kayt says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my great grandmother on one side and my great-great grandmother on the other side.
Becky B says
Fabric me! My name, as far as I know, doesn’t have any special significance. I know it was picked from the bible, but I don’t have the biblical spelling. My middle name, Lyn, only has one “n” which I was always really snooty about growing up because that meant I was special. Now it’s just kind of annoying. :)
Caitlin says
Fabric me!!
Tina says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my paternal grandmother, Fotini. When my parents came to the States, they figured I would need an “American” name. Fotini translates to Frances but my dad didn’t like that name so they went with Tina.
Megan says
Fabric Me!
The meaning behind my name is when my mom was pregnant she was reading the Thornbirds, and she really liked the character Meg so she decided to name me Megan. I love my name and I wouldn’t want any other name. I often say if Megan wasn’t my name it would be my daughters because I love it so much.
Happy Tuesday 1HL!
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!
Apparentely my parents named me after a character from an 80’s show called ‘Family Ties’!
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
Katie is short for Kathleen.
Kathleen was because I think my mom just loved the name… and secretly wished she was Irish… haha!
Katie is what I have always gone by… I think my older sister had trouble saying Kathleen so it got shortened up for her. And it stuck!
Lisa S. says
FABRIC ME! And sadly…..no special story to my name. I always wished to be named after a glamorous relative. Sadly not.
Sarah says
Fabric Me! My name means princess but between my first and middle name (Sarah Mary) I am named after all of my grandmothers and great grandmothers except for one and I took her name as my confirmation name. I’m the only girl on my mom’s side so they tried to fit in as much as they could hahaha
Wendy D. says
Fabric Me!
Before i was born my dad was convinced I was going to be a boy and wanted to name me after some politician named Wendell. Well I was born a girl but he was still stuck on the name. Thankfully my great-grandmother convinced him to add a yn on the end of it to make it Wendellyn.
Nicole R says
Fabric Me! My name is Nicole and it means “victory” from the greek word “nike” so I like to think I have been victorious over circumstances in my life :)
Lauren S. says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Lauren – I know my parents had a difficult time agreeing on a name not knowing my gender at the time. My mom liked names with “l” sounds so I could have been a “Leigh” or a “Leah” but Lauren won the battle.
Hillary says
FABRIC ME!!
My name is Hillary which means Cheerful. I definitely think I am cheerful with a little sarcasm and ridonkulousness thrown in. I really love my name–there aren’t many of us. When I meet another one, I always want to do a secret handshake or something because I think we’re part of a secret “Hillary” club. Haha. And it’s two L’s not one!!!!
carrie_b says
fabric me! :-) an international giveaway – coooool! this comes just in time for my four-week holiday and a little home makeover involving new pillows, curtains and the like… I so hope I’m lucky!
Maria says
FABRIC ME! I am named after my great-grandma on my mom’s side. I never got the chance to meet her, but I bet she was fantastic.
Dwana says
Fabric me! I have so many projects in my mind just waiting for the right fabric. My mom discovered my cousin was going to be named Danielle, her first choice. So she and her best friend were throwing out names and her friend said my name as a joke. But I guess the joke stuck because that became my name. Actually, Dwana is the shortened version of my full first name, Dwanashawn. I’ve always just gone by Dwana, but when a friend finds out my full name, they think it’s so funny they can’t help but call me Dwanashawn. Obviously, it’s not something I advertise :)
Stephanie Williams says
Fabrick me!!
Nothing special… It was supposed to be Kelly but when my dad saw me, he changed it to be Stephanie. I guess I looked like a Stephanie :)
Erica says
FABRIC ME!
Name means majestic ruler….sounds about right!!
Nicole F. says
FABRIC ME!
No special name, just me!
sarah says
FABRIC ME!! I used to think that I was named after my great-great-grandmother, but once I finally mentioned that to my mom, she said, “no, we just liked the name.” Live and learn!
Lori says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my great aunt whom unfortunately I never met, but she left some awesome jewelry to my mom. I hear she was a real classy lady.
