After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Megan S. says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after a nurse on a daytime soap opera that my dad watched before I was born while he was at home all day after an eye injury.
Kelly McGrath says
FABRIC ME!
My first and middle name are “Kelly Marie”. My grandmothers maiden name is “Marie Kelly”. I’ve always thought it made a special bond between us.
Elsa says
Fabric Me! My parents were teachers and wanted to pick a unique name that wasn’t going to remind them of former students!
Rosemary C. says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my mom’s friend from high school but we won’t talk about all the scarborough faire jokes I got in high school.
Phavaly...Lily says
FABRIC ME! My full name was given to me by my grandmother…my older sister has almost the same name with one letter variation (d instead of l). But ever since I was a baby my family has called me Lily…I guess it works? I went by y full name through most of school and was always used to people messing it up :) but I didn’t mind too much. When I got into the working world I found if people know how to say your name they remember a little easier…so Lily was good. It works for me :)
Tirsa says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were missionaries so they appropriately found my name in the bible. More than the meaning I like the story from which my name came. Tirsa was one of five sisters who went to ask Moses for their father’s inheritance. A very bold thing to do back then as only men received inheritance – or anything for that matter. :)
Lauren (in PA) says
FABRIC ME!
No real story about my name, other than my mom liked it better than Laura.
But was the late 60’s, and NO ONE was named Lauren, especially in Indiana. I had to suffer through years of Laura, Laureen, Loraine… it was awful.
Renee says
Fabric Me! My name comes from my mother’s best friend. She loved the name so much that she gave it to me and the rest is history.
Renee says
Fabric me! The name “Renee” is French and means “reborn.” On another note, I just started sewing. More than anything, I’m so enjoying looking at fabric choices. What fun!
Kim H says
Fabric Me! No special meaning behind my name, just something my parents liked :)
Regan says
FABRIC ME!
My mom fell in love with the name Regan after reading Shakespeare’s King Lear in college, and at that point decided if she one day had a little girl she would name her Regan. Little did she know that I would be born while President Reagan was in office forever leading everyone to believe that I was named after the president :)
Emily says
FABRIC ME! My name, Emily, means industrious, which I suppose I can be. But doesn’t have any special meaning to my family… my parents just liked it!
Janet says
FABRIC ME! My mom originally wanted to name me Luisa Fernanda, but since she was a tad drugged(medical) from labor my dad snuck in and suggested Janet to which my mom agreed. It was only after she had come to that she realized it was Janet. She loved the name and realized later that LF wouldnt of been right for me. Ha!
Amanda W. says
FABRIC ME :) !! Named after my great grandmother ( first), and grandma (middle) on my mom’s side!!
Jennifer says
“FABRIC ME!” The name Jennifer means “White Phantom, white wave” The meaning of that name is weird and a little out there…I know. But, it makes sense that Jennifer was the most popular name of the 70s…..
Amanda says
FABRIC ME! My name means worthy of love or loveable, and I’m named after my maternal grandmother who died when my mom was 9 years old. When I was a kid, I wanted to be named Tina after Tina Turner. :)
Quiana says
FABRIC ME! My name is actually inspired by the name of a popular fabric from the 70s (Qiana – I’m Quiana). My mom studied clothing and textile sciences so I guess she was inspired!
Victoria (Tori) says
FABRIC ME!!
My name means ‘Winner, Conqueror.’ My parents each marked names in a baby name book that they liked. Victoria was the only name both liked. My nickname (that I actually go by) was given to me by my aunt. Apparently she called me ‘a little tory’ (meaning traitor) because I would never let her hold me. The name stuck.
LaNae Ball says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my grandmother, we are and have always been very close!
Lindsay K. says
FABRIC ME!
No special significance to my name…my parents just liked it!
Crystal Nikish says
Fabric Me! My name doesn’t mean anything, but my daughter is named after my very favorite grandmother.
katie says
fabric me
my name is an irish name since I was born in march
Julie says
FABRIC ME!
Melissa says
Fabric me up!!
When I was 5 in asked my parents to switch my name to Stephanie. I swore it was the best name ever. They said no. So I’m stuck with Melissa. :)
Aimee says
Fabric Me!
Aimee means Beloved. There is really no special meaning behind why my parents chose my name besides the fact that my mom always wanted a daughter named Amy. However, my father wanted the spelling to be different and I love how it is spelled!
Jennie says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my grandmother who died before I was born. Her name was Giovanna, born and raised in Italy, when she moved to America – she picked her American name to be Jennie. Thus – two years after her passing – I was named after her. I love my name and the different spelling and love that I was named after her. Everyone tells me she was a pretty awesome lady!
Emily says
I was supposed to be named Nora, but then when I was born I had blonde hair and my parents thought that a Nora should have brown hair instead. I’m pretty sure that they just picked Emily out of a baby name book cause it was the first one they both like. :-)
Meredith says
FABRIC ME!
My parents had two names picked out for me and when I was born, “Meredith” and “Julia”. They decided on Meredith since I was born with a full head of black hair like my mom’s childhood best friend – and they thought “Julia” was more of a blonde-haired girl name. Little did they know my hair would turn lighter and lighter and by the time I was 3 I was a blonde! Oh well, I love my name :)
Mel Morgan says
Fabric for me please.
My daughter and I share the same middle name along with my mom. Pretty special that we all have it in common.
Diana says
Fabric Me!
My parents thought of my name because Princess Diana and Prince Charles were visiting Edmonton when my mom was pregnant. My Mom thought, hey Diana is a pretty name!
Megan says
FABRIC ME!
No exciting meaning behind my name that I’m aware of!
Katie C says
FABRIC ME! My mom always wanted a Katie. When I was born my dad said it was not Catholic enough (because he is such a practicing Catholic…no). So he said he had to be Katherine. I guess back then both parents had to go downstairs to the records office in the hospital to get the birth certificate made. My dad dragged my mom, post birth, down there three times to change my name because he kept spelling it wrong. It was then that she found out he was really naming me after Katharine Hepburn. But suprise, he still spelled it wrong. My name is KathErine. Hers is KathArine. Oh well, just like my mom wanted, no one has ever called me Katherine, except official documents.
Liz says
Fabric me! My middle name is Kay. As I child I hate my name because whenever I said it people said ‘K, what?’ The one days realized that Kay is my mother’s middle name and her mother’s. Now I say my name will pride knowing there are generations of Kays in my family.
Penny says
FABRIC ME! I was named for one of my parent’s friends, Penny. I never got to meet her, but I love knowing that they cherished her enough to name me after her!
Kimberly says
Fabric Me! My name was a game time decision. I’m named after the labor nurse’s daughter.
Louis Cameron says
FABRIC ME!
“Louis’ Crossing” is a small bar/restaurant in Quincy, Massachusetts (my hometown) and my grandfather actually worked there, I am named after the restaurant. The restaurant itself is named for the TRUE story of how the owners basset hound use to cross the street.
Sandra F says
FABRIC ME! No interesting story behind my name that I’m aware of. I haven’t always loved my “old lady” name but have come to appreciate it over the years. Just don’t call me Sandy, please.
Melyssa says
Fabric me!
The spelling of my name is because my parents decided they wanted their children all to have “Y”s in their name.
Everyone else has traditional names with traditional spellings. Picture my face when my bike couldn’t have a little plastic license plate with my name on it like my other siblings had. I think mine just said “cool”…
Anne says
FABRIC ME!
meg says
Fabric me, pretty please!
Oh,my name is so common and there’s no special story behind it except that my mom liked the name. Luckily, I like it, too, so I’m keeping it. :)
pri says
FABRIC Me!
My mom happened to stumble across my name in some magazine and she immediately fell in love with it.
Cindy says
FABRIC ME!!
I was a “surprise,” as my 2 sisters were 16 and 20 years older than myself and my folks thought they were done having children. Once over the initial shock, my parents were convinced that I would be the boy they never had, so they did not have a girl’s name picked out, and left my name up to my then 16 year old sister, who apparently thought “Cindy Lou” was cute…
Emily W says
FABRIC ME!!! My first name was just one my parents liked, but my middle name is the same as my grandmother’s!
Vicky says
Fabric Me!
My parents had 5 daughters so I believe by their 4th.. ME! They were running outta ‘significant’ girl names so they went with one they just loved… Victoria :) I believe it means Conqueror! :) Which I’m quite sure if you ask my 3 boys and hubs they’ll say is fitting!
Abby says
Fabric me!
We’re actually thinking a lot about both names and fabric after we found out on Friday that we’re expecting twin girls! We could definitely put this giveaway to good use in the nursery!
Evan says
FABRIC ME!
Jaime says
Fabric Me! My name is a typical 80s girl name, picked for no good reason. It means I love or I like (J’aime) in french.
Shannon says
FABRIC ME!!!! Hello, my name is Shannon Marion. I was named Shannon after the river in Ireland after my mom visited there. And Marion because I am the 3rd generation to carry it as a middle name. My oldest daughter Isabelle Marion is the 4th generation with it.
MB says
FABRIC ME! No significance. My Mom preferred Beth and my Dad preferred Mary. Now I’m stuck with a two word first name.
Lucy says
Fabric Me! My name is Lucy. Not Lucille, or Lucinda… just plain ole Lucy. Why? Because my father was in the waiting room, watching I Love Lucy on TV, while my mom gave birth to me. When he finally met me, my mother said, “Ok, what do you want to name her?” and he said, “Lucy”. Funny enough, I have reddish curly hair, and have been told that I have the personality traits of Lucille Ball! So being named Lucy is a HUGE honor and I wouldn’t change it for the world!
