Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric Me! I was supposed to be Jacqulyne, but my parents decided our last name was challenging enough to spell so they wanted to make things a bit easier for me and went with Amy instead!

I was actually supposed to be a boy, so my parents hadn’t discussed any girl names. When I was born, my dad was so excited, he ran into the waiting to tell everyone I was born and gave me my name (without talking to my mom).

FABRIC ME!!! My mom wanted to originally name me Birtha (thank god she didn’t – no offense to the birtha’s) but she ended up hearing someone say the name brittany and she fell in love with it. Mind you this was back in the early 80’s when Brittany wasn’t everywhere. Now I really wish I had another name still not Birtha though. You can only hear Brittany? like Brittney Spears hahahah, so many times before you want to puke.

My name name is the masculine version of Andrew, which means manly and virile…not very interesting. I guess more interestingly, my parents are Italian so my name is pronounced Awn-drea instead of AN-drea.

Fabric me! I am named after a distant relative, Sarah Noble. She was a young frontier girl who lived with the Native Americans for a winter while her Dad had to leave for a bit. There is a children’s book about it called, “The Courage of Sarah Noble.”

Fabric Me! My name Ayisha (I-e-sha) was chosen because it was Stevie Wonders daughters name and my mom was his biggest fan back in the 70’s. My dad wanted to name me Jamie because his name was James but my mom wasn’t having it. I wish that my dad had won that battle cause I’m not too fond of my name. Apparently Ayisha is very common in the Muslim community and whenever I talk to people on the phone they assume that I am Muslim but I’m not.
