Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME! No special meaning behind my name, other than I am the ONLY male in my family not to have the family middle name. Makes me wonder… :)

My First name is Ginger. I am named after my Aunt, who is Virginia but went by the nickname Ginger because her mother (my grandmother) was also Virginia but used the name Ginny. I hope to have a daughter one day and name her Virginia and go by the nickname Ginny. I love having a different name that has history from our family.

I’m a third generation Barbara – first daughter born down my mother’s side of the family. My daughter is Barbara the 4th. Funny enough, my husband is Paul the 3rd, and we’re currently expecting another child, so we’re hoping it will be a boy and we’ll name him Paul the 4th. We’re a family who likes our name traditions!

    FARBIC ME!
When my parents picked out my name they had three things in mind:
    – has to sound good with my last name
    – has to end on an a
    – and the best one: they didn’t want any low letters in my name (the correct term might be decenders?)like y, p, g.
And I am very happy with my name, it’s not a family name or anything though.

    Love from Germany,
    Veronika

My Mom really wanted to name be Kristina instead of Krista but my dad was afraid that people would shorten it to Kris and I would be confused for a boy. I always wished she had done this because in my high school of only 250 people there were 9 Krista’s. One summer I worked as a lifeguard with with 2 other Krista;s which cause quite a bit of confusion!

A funny story is that her older sister was pregnant, went in to deliver her baby and had twins (surprise!) Fabric me! My parents say there is not reason. But it was my great-grandmother’s middle name. My grandparents gave my mom my great-grandmother’s (her grandma’s) first and (almost) middle name, but they shortened the middle to a nickname version. Mom always wondered why they did that. So she gave the full middle name to me. Also, I was born in a hospital of the same name, so I have always been curious.
