After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Janiece says
FABRIC ME!!!
I have always liked my name because it’s unique. My mom knew a girl in high school with the name only it was spelled with an s where my c is. It is pronounced Jah-Niece though ppl end up sayin Juh-Niece.

FABRIC ME!
Meghan is just a good old Irish name :)
Ericka says
FABRIC ME! My name was supposed to be Jessica but my mom was told by her doctor that he had recently delivered a few babies with that name, so that’s how I got the name Ericka (spelled with a ‘c’ and a ‘k’ because she thought it looked nicer that way).
Shannon says
My parent couldn’t decide on a name for me & the hospital nurses kept giving her a hard time. My dad was out celebrating my birth with friends & someone yelled out Shannon as a name possibility. Yeah- I was named at a bar.
Bridget says
FABRIC ME!
just named after a great aunt :-)
Mary R says
Fabric Me! :)
I was named after a friend of my mother’s daughter…she just liked the name.
KerryQ says
FABRIC ME! My parent had whittled their name list down to two: John and Kerry. Then my cousin who is 6 months older became John. So my parents were stumped on boy names. Luckily, I was/am a girl and they named me the Irish equivalent of New Jersey (according to my Dubliner husband and across the pond in-laws.). John, on the other hand, is no longer John. Ahem.
Elizabeth says
FABRIC ME! Nothing exciting behind the choice of my name but when my grandfather heard my mother’s choice of a name he said that if I was going to be named after a “darned” (not his choice of word) queen then that’s what he would call me. And Queen Bean was my nickname by all family members until he died 20 years later.
Bree says
FABRIC ME!
My full name is Breeann. I usually go by Bree because people always want to add more syllables then required. Also it’s always fun to say, ‘Bree, like the cheese’ (though it’s not spelled the same) and people seem to remember it.
My parents split it up so my Dad named the boys (two brothers) and my Mom named the girls (one sister and me). Also my name is spelled the way it sounds. I’m not sure how she came up with it though. My sister’s name was from a book but never really knew about mine. I guess that’s something I could ask. :)
Lauren says
FABRIC ME! My mom almost named me Grace. I’m thankful she didn’t because I’m the least graceful person I know.
Liana says
FABRIC ME! My first name, Liana, is a type of tropical vine. But my parents picked it because it is unique and because it ended in an “a,” like my mom and sister’s names (Barbara, Alicia). My middle name, Martha, is a family name…I am the 4th one to have it.
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
I’m new to your wonderful/inspiring blog, and the hubs and I move into our first home next week…this would be such good timing! :) My patents thought I was going to be a boy named “Ted,” original huh? Katie came from a soap opera. My mom has always said she wanted to name me Nellie after a great grandmother, but my dad wasn’t having it…
Pam C says
FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted a different name but my paternal grandmother suggested my name and my mom was too shy to tell her she had chosen another name. So – my paternal grandmother chose my name.
Amy says
FABRIC ME!
My name means to be loved.
Mollie says
FABRIC ME! No special meaning behind my name, but when I was about five I really wanted to change my name to Daisy Duke. I went so far as to ask my mom if people could change their names and what the process was. When her answer seemed really complicated, I asked my kindergarten teacher. Their stories matched. My name is still Mollie.
liz says
fabric me!! my name, “elizabeth,” means “god’s gift,” but that’s not why my parents picked it. they were convinced i’d be a boy, so they didn’t have any girl names picked out. all they could think of was “constance,” which was actually on my birth certificate! you can still see the marks from where my dad had a change of heart – he made the nurse erase “constance,” which she’d written in PEN.
Elle says
FABRIC ME! I’m honored to be named after my grandfather, an assuming, down-to-earth German-American farmer.
Urmili says
FABRIC ME!
Please…I am doing up my bedroom on a really tight budget! Winning this would be so awesome!
My name in the ancient Sanskrit language means ‘waves’ – its little wonder I love the ocean and its shades and hues to use in around my home. On moving to Canada people do find it hard to pronounce my name!
Lisa Champlin says
Fabric Me! My name is Lisa Marie. Which if anyone is up on their pop culture, then you can guess what my mother’s inspiration was!
Sarah Arsenault says
Fabric me!
Kate says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after the 2 junior bridesmaids (both cousins of some type) at my parents’ wedding. I especially love my middle name, Delane, though my husband teases me that it’s very Southern!
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
My mom had always planned on naming her first girl Katie, but when I was born I “didn’t look like a Katie”, so she let my dad name me Erin
Maddie Reed says
FABRIC ME!!!! My full name is Maddox Wild. Maddox is my paternal grandmother maiden name and Wild is my maternal grandmother’s maiden name. Growing up, I was often mistaken for a boy before people saw me! It took me a very long time to really appreciate the uniqueness of my name. Now I wouldn’t trade it for the world!! My husband and I have a little one due in July. If it is a girl, we will be passing down Wild for her to carry. It has taught me to be strong and confident! Hopefully it will do the same for her!
Bridget says

FABRIC ME!
My mom comes from a french background and insisted that I have a french name!
Krista says
FABRIC ME! Until the day I was born, I was Elizabeth Jane. And at the last minute, my parents went with Krista Marie after a dear friend of hers. I think it goes without saying, the timeless name of Elizabeth Jane has always been *my* pick. As an aside, I’m in the middle of looking for fabric for our window seat as part of our first major home project. Winning would be pretty “fab” ’round these parts!
amy says
FABRIC ME!!
My name came from my Mom’s favorite bedtime story that her Mom read to her when she was a little girl. ;)

laura londergan says
Fabric me please! I didn’t have a name for 4 days since I was ‘supposed’ to be my brother (sorry parents – geesh!) so they were getting ready to take me home & the hospital wouldn’t let them take me without a name, so my mom named me after her fav soap opera star! What??!! Nice huh? {sigh} fabric.me.PLEASE! ;)
Kellie says
FABRIC ME!
There is absolutely nothing special about my name. My mom just liked it. I guess it could be worse, though!
Andrea says
FABRIC ME!
No special story- just a name my Mom liked.
Lydia says
Fabric me!
My dad liked the name and it became mine. For years it wasn’t common but when my 1st child started playing t-ball there were 2 Lydia s on the team. Imagine my confusion when I’d hear “Lydia, run to 1st!” ;-)
Holly D says
Fabric ME!
My mom and I share a middle name.
Cora Baker says
FABRIC ME!
My mom went into labor as she was getting ready to get in the shower. She decided that the shower was important and delivery could wait. :-) So….she finally got to the hospital at 10:00am and my big arrival was at 10:09am —- I didn’t waste any time to make my debut. Due to the short labor the doctor did not have time to get to the hospital so the nurse in the ER had to deliver me. The next big surprise was that “Nathan” was a girl! OOPPPSS….due to this mix up my parents didn’t have a name for me, the girl. I left the hospital without a name and was given a name when I was 3 days off and was named after the nurse that delivered me.
Kayley says
Fabric Me!
I love the meaning behind my name (although it was a total last minute pick of the hat by my mom)! It’s Gaelic and means “slender one”. Fitting since I am so petite!
Angie says
FABRIC ME!! My middle name is the same as my mom’s middle name. I don’t have an exciting story about how it was picked, but i have always been asked if it’s Angela, but it is indeed just Angie. I have never wished it was different, so they did good:)
Rachel says
FABRIC ME!”
My name was the name of my mother’s favorite aunt, and my middle name was my dad’s late mother’s name. And I’ve always liked my name :)
Robin says
FABRIC ME!
My name means Sunshine and my dad picked it on the way to the hospital. My mom wanted to name me January and he did not like that so he came up with something quickly.
gingerandgiant says
FABRIC ME!!
My middle name is Ialeen – after my g-ma. Everyone says it’s a weird spelling. I recently found out that on her birth certificate my g-ma is Aileen – but that her mom didn’t like it so to spite her dad who chose it she changed the spelling to Ialeen and my g-ma just adopted that spelling into all of her documents going forward.
Ashley says
FABRIC ME!!
I am named after the Ashley River in Charleston, SC. My parents lived there before I was born, but I have never wanted to know the answer to why I am named after a river (if you know what I’m saying)!!
