After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

my middle name is the same as my mother’s, and her grandmother’s
Anna Hughes says
FABRIC ME!! I don’t think there is an exciting meaning behind my name…how boring. :)
Carole Anne says
Fabric Me! My parents planned on naming me Jennifer but when I was born I did not “look” like a Jennifer (whatever that means! Lol) so they were stumped. Finally on the day we were scheduled to go home my parents decided to name me Carole Anne Lee-Carole because my Mom’s sister is Carole (and my older sister is named Mary Anne after my Mother) and because my Mom shared a hospital room with a woman named Carol who had a sister Mary Anne too (my mom is still great friends with Carol) Then they added Anne because everyone in my family has Anne in their name ( I mean everyone -the boys are even name Andrew!) and finally Lee for my Grandmother Angelina (see another form of Anne :)!
B. Kim says
FABRIC ME!! My first name is Barbara and I was named after my Aunt who was a Home Economics Professor. Everything she did was the coolest and she would have the best blog. I was always amazed with the things she made from my Barbie like a full length fur!! ( I still have it ) and hand made wooden purses for me, crochet dresses, you name it…. it was cool!! I think that is part of the reason I love to read your blog everyday. It’s my first read!!! You guys would have LOVED her house. It was right out of the Jetson’s.
Kristin says
Fabric me! I know they had a hard time coming up with it … and one of the names kicked around was Katherine. So daddy could call me Kitten, like he did his ex girlfriend – yuck! And if I was a boy? Hunter.
Laura says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my great grandmother – who I never met, but I’ve been told I share many common traits with!
Cecile Blake says
Fabric me! Cecile is a family name and is the patron saint of music. I am completely unmusical though :)
Rebecca W says
FABRIC ME!
My parents liked the book, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm….hence, my name :) Their second choice was Phoebe…and as a big “Friends” fan back in the day, I thought that would’ve been pretty cool!
Stacey says
FABRIC ME! My siblings and I all have the same initials and our first names all have 6 letters. My mom told me that even if I were a boy, my name would have been the same. Not sure what my middle name would have been.
Sallie says
FABRIC ME!
My “real” name is Sarah…which I love. I have an older sister that is wonderful, albeit a bit overdosed on the leadership quality…anyway, she decided that my mom should change both my name and my sister’s. She began to call me “Sally”, and my sister Alyson, “Katie”. I have been Sally ever since, and my sister legally changed her name to Katie 25 years ago. Womp, there it is…my name story!
jill sheehan says
Fabric me- my parents loved the name. They were going to name my brother Jack ( thank God the did not!!!!!- can you imagine????).
Caren says
FABRIC ME!
When my mom went into labor with me the labor and delivery nurse’s name was Caryn. Well my mom thought it was such a coincidence that her sister’s name was also Karen, so she combined them to make Caren. I NEVER had anything with my name on it as a child, thank God for monogram machines now!
Leah says
FABRIC ME! My name came from the Bible. My parents did not have a name picked out and a family friend showed up at the hospital and said I think it should be Leah. And they agreed!
Maria says
FABRIC ME! My Italian grandmother (who had 7 boys) had always wanted a girl to name Maria. Well, she didn’t get one. So, since I was the first grandchild, my parents thought it would be nice to name me Maria for her. And since, she has called me “Marie” and “Mariah”. Even on birthday cards. I don’t think she knows my real name.
Teresa says
FABRIC ME! As far as I know my name means “harvest”. What exactly one does with that, I don’t know, but it sounds nice!:-)
Athena says
FABRIC ME please…
My mother has chosen the name Athena because of her fascination with the Greek mythology and she figured (like the typical moms) that the name suited me well since she knew from the get go that I would be the intelligent one. I was told that I was advanced with everything as a baby. Hence why I guess she pushes me a lot now to go back for my masters in nurse anesthesia. Ok I’m rambling, there you have it! =) I hope I get picked this time!!! I’m now getting into sewing a lot and would love the gift card!
Kelly lester says
Fabric me. My first name means warrior woman and my middle was my grandmothers and is now my oldest daughters also
Kristen B. says
FABRIC ME!
My dad actually picked out my name. He liked how it sounded and it ended up being really popular around my age group.
Jennette says
Fabric Me!
I’m named after my grandma, who admits that she could only call me “that baby” for a while as it was weird to call someone by her own name. She was named after an aunt, too. Wonder if her aunt had similar troubles!
Though my grandma passed away over a decade ago, I love figuring out who I am and what I like to do (sewing, cooking, playing cards, etc.) and realizing that those are all things I had in common with her. More than just a name!
Leah says
Fabric me. My parents wanted a biblical name and settled on Leah.
Maureen Gaj says
FABRIC ME!!
My mother picked out unique Irish names (as she was giving up her very Irish heritage for some Polish dude she liked) for all of us, with the goal that we’d be the only Maureen, Kerry and Evan in our schools. It worked! :)
Sharee A says
FABRIC ME! My name happens to have beena popular one for the times (1956). When people see my name on paper, they assume the pronounciation is Sha-ree but, Mom and Dad pronouce it like cherry. One of those names that you’ll see spelled a number of different ways but, I’ve ALWAYS loved my name. Speaking of fabric, I’m looking for a bright, cheery fabric for my vintage telephone bench redo project.
Wendy says
FABRIC ME! I would like to say I was named after Peter Pan, but my parents just liked the name!
Shannon K. says
FABRIC ME!
There was a great-great grandmother that came before me that had a maiden name of Shannon, and apparently my parents liked it enough to use it for me.
Jean says
Fabric me! All I know about my name is that my father named me and that I was the only child that he named instead of my mother. I think he picked Elizabeth because he liked it and my middle name, which I go by, Jean because his mother’s name is Eugenia. Exciting story, right?! :-)
Shana says
FABRIC ME!
My grandmother suggested it while my mom was pregnant and she loved it. It means beautiful in hebrew and is also part of a yiddish phrase (shayna maydala) that means “such a pretty face”, so I get lots of people at my grandma’s retirement home reminding me of what my name means. When I was younger I got annoyed because everyone pronounced it wrong (Shawna or Shanna), and my mom agreed she should have put a y in, but I absolutely love it now because it’s unique, but not what-kind-of-name-is-that?!?! unique.
gail says
FABRIC ME! Gail–it was short and my mom didn’t think anyone could get a nickname out of it. Some friends called me Gailie, though. Oh well, she tried! I always thought nicknames were neat.
Erin says
FABRIC ME! My mother was torn between Katherine and Erin. She chose Erin because she thought it was pretty. My middle name is after my aunt who died when she was three of a brain tumor.
Carolyn says
FABRIC ME! Nothing special about my name except my Dad thought it was long enough and I didn’t need a middle name.
nate says
Fabric me.
Marie W says
“FABRIC ME!”
My first name is Anita – which is my Grandmother’s name. My middle name is Marie, which is my Great Grandmother’s name. When I was born we were stationed in Hawaii. They called me Anita…. until my Great Grandmother came over to spend 6 months with my Mom while my Dad was out at sea. She commented to my Mom that everyone named their kids after her, but no one ever called them Marie. (My Mom’s name is Linda Marie – she goes by Linda). I believe almost all of the women in my family have the middle name Marie after my Great Grandmother. So…. my Mom started calling me Marie.
I am glad she did, as I don’t care too much for Anita – never really loved Marie growing up – as I wanted to be a Christy or Christa or something cute like that. lol. However, I now love my whole name. =)
Cathy says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were convinced that I was a boy. They didn’t have a girl name picked out, so once I was born they had to scramble to pick one.
Stephanie F says
FABRIC ME!
It was a family name, I did however try and convince my parents to change it to Rosebud when I was 5 :)
Lisa Erdman says
FABRIC ME!!
My maiden name is Lisa gayle paust. Lisa after Lisa Marie Priestley. I was going to be Lisa Marie Paust (same initials) but my mom wanted to carry on her name (gayle)…so she made it Lisa gayle. Needless to say, she is a huge Elvis fan!
Miranda says
FABRIC ME!
My mom saw The Tempest when she was pregnant and loved the name Miranda. So here I am! :)
cc says
FABRIC ME!
my parents had a list of favorite names, but picked mine because they thought i looked like a Claudia, i guess. but it means “lame” which is horrible, and even worse when you find out what it means in 7th grade during a “fun” classroom project.
Angie says
FABRIC ME!…no story or meaning behind my name. My mom wanted to name me Tiffany…my dad, Angela. Dad won. I also wanted a more unusual name so I decided to give my daughter a less common name. Jensen…she loves it.
Callie says
FABRIC ME! I was named for my mother ‘s two best friends and after my grandmother who died a month before I was born. However, they did not call me any of those names and chose instead to nickname me Callie after my paternal great-grandmother!
Halle says
Fabric me!
My name means hall in German. It is also the name of a town in Germany, though I know my parents were unaware of both of those facts at the time of my birth. My name is always mispronounced and badly misspelled on a regular basis, but I wouldn’t change my name, no, just people’s understanding of phonics.
Meg says
fabric me! My full name means “pearl”.
Cheryl B. says
FABRIC ME! My name has no meaning, my parents just liked it and wanted a name that could not be shortened
Meaghan says
Fabric me!!!
I always loved my name Meaghan (not sure why they picked the name though)…however, I do know that my grandmother did NOT like and it and called me Lady Jane for a long time. I also had Mathilda and Maggot (from my bro) as nicknames. Ha
Jessica says
Fabric Me! My parents claim they just liked the name and I liked it as well even though there were four other Jessicas in my neighborhood growing up. I just always wanted a middle name. So I proclaimed one myself. To this day my family still laughs that I chose Barbie.
Meg says
fabric me! my name means pearl in greek.
Audrey says
FABRIC ME! I have two older brothers. Both of them would have been Audrey if they were girls. As my dad says “It’s a classy name”. And that is why they picked it.
As a young girl I hated it, and wanted to change it to Cynthia (I watched a lot of the Brady Bunch).
Amanda Hays says
FABRIC ME! I honestly don’t know what my name means, my parents were just fans of it. :)
Kristina says
FABRIC ME! I was originally going to be named Gabrielle Anastasia but my dad didn’t want my initials to be GAB. So they were KAB instead.
Stacy Grogan says
FARBRIC ME! I am in desperate need of new fabric to slipcover my sofas. The fabric has shredded due to my dog, but the furniture is still in great shape! I NEED this!!!
Taylor says
FABRIC ME!
My parents could not agree on a name, so they started taking suggestions on names from family members. The name Taylor came up & luckily, it was the winner! Now my middle name, that is a totally different story…Macomb?! Try explaining to everyone in elementary that it’s not misspelled.
Lala says
FABRIC ME!
My mom’s middle name has Beth in it, so she named me Lizbeth. She liked Elizabeth but wanted to make it a little different. My sister also has Beth in her name. And she gave me the nickname Lala as a baby since she couldn’t say my name.
