Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    Fabric Me!

No meaning behind my name. My parents and grandparents were sitting on the front porch one day when my mom was pregnant and they were tossing around name ideas and my grandma came up with my name. Of course, they also came up with a boy name (in the days of determining gender based on heart rate), but in either case, I’d have the same first and middle initials. :)

FABRIC ME! I recently bought a beautiful ottoman, which I don’t usually do since I’m a DIYer. Our cat has destroyed it! We even tried to use the double sided sticky tape to discourage him. No such luck. I have been searching for fabric to reupholster it myself.

    FABRIC ME!

My mom wanted to name me after a woman she looked up to named Nelly, but she wasn’t a fan of the name. So she messed around and came up with Chenell. It never occurred to her that most people would associate it with one of the most iconic design houses of all time, or (worse)…the perfume.

I was named after my dad’s ex girlfriend (whom my mother knew in high school and didn’t like). So it’s really weird my mom allowed my name to be Amber.

18 weeks pregnant with my first! Would love to win the fabric for the nursery!!!

I have always wished for a name that a. I didn’t have to spell over and over and b. wasn’t commonly shortened (in the North where I grew up) to half my name. (No longer a problem in the proper-name-loving South!). I don’t know what I would have picked instead, though…

FABRIC ME! i’m learning how to sew clothes for my baby daughter and this would help my budget soooo much! My name is Aspen, and i’m always asked where the name came from. the typical questions are “were you born there?” (nope. never even been there), and “were you conceived in Aspen?” (nope. but that’s what i wish the story is. way romantic.) the true story is simply that my mom knew a little girl with that name when she was a teenager and loved it. oh and my parents were hippies. obviously.

I was supposed to be a boy and my mom liked Gone With the Wind so she picked Ashley. When I came out a girl, she coupled it with Marie. Both names were in the top 10 list the year I was born so there were five other Ashleys in my 1st grade class- I hated being mixed up with everyone so I took the ‘e’ out and started going by Ashly. I hated my name for years, but when my daughter was born this past year I named her Caroline Ashly. I figure if men can name their children after themselves then I can too :)

I am named after my father, Colin. My middle name is Frances, and that is after my uncle and godfather Frank (Francis). When I was younger, I wished I had a more common name because I didn’t like being different. Now that I am older, I really appreciate having an uncommon name and I am often complimented on it. :)

My name, when written out in Japanese characters, means “multi faceted beautiful person” Not that my mother knew that when she named me. She found the name in a novel she read as a teenager. Doesn’t remember the character, novel, author, nothing but the name.
