Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME! I was named after the Ontario town of Erin where my grandparents lived. I’m also a man. But the name Aaron wasn’t popular that long ago so this spelling wasn’t “the girl way” yet.

My first name has no special significance other than my parents thought it was pretty. My middle name is a family name from my dad’s side of the family: drake which means small snake dragon…

My name is Patricia since I was born two days after St. Patrick’s Day. (I would’ve been Patrick if a boy, my mom always said.)

I’ve always liked my name except in high school. I thought it was too old-fashioned. I wanted to be a “Trish.” Now that sounds just as old-fashioned.

My Mom named me after an actress. The funny thing is–no one pronounced my name right when I was a baby so what my Mom actually intended on calling me, didn’t stick.

I was named after a character on a soap opera, or the Don Williams song, depends which story my parents feel like telling. Personally, given that my name was about the 3rd most popular girl name of the 80’s, I think they could have heard it anywhere.

Fabric Me! I have my grandmother’s name, but her’s is spelled without the ‘h’. I was almost named Sarah Elizabeth, but my dad suggested Sarah Marie, and that’s what stuck. My sister ended up getting Elizabeth as her middle name.

Fabric me! (please!) My name is Lorelei which would be exciting if my parents had KNOWN about the Lorelei Rock in Germany where the beautiful mermaid lounged and combed her hair while singing and luring the sailors to crash …all except the crashing part! Instead there was a little known Opera star named Lorelei Kilburn they heard the name on TV and TA DAH: Me, no sleek (albeit scaly and legless) beauty, alluring to men, instead a chubby (amateur) soprano with frizzy hair who is always cast in the role of “friend” rather than “sweetheart” and my “rock” a not-even-yet-paid-for new couch virtually destroyed by the feral kitten I rescued in August…a LONG way to get to the REASON I would love the fabric…to sew a slipcover to cover the damage!
