Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

I was the only “Joanne” in school except for my art teacher. I never meet other people my age (33) with my name, but I’m cool with that :)

Well, my northern parents lived in the south for a few years when I was born, so I got a double name: I go by first and middle, common in the south.
First is a great-grandmother’s name (which was later used for my cousin), and I guess the middle just flowed with the first.
And no, I never wished to be another named. I have gone by just the first at times b/c it’s just dang easier.
So Fabric me! I love fabric.

My name… My mum wanted to call me Stephanie and my dad wanted to call me Kim. After a stalemate, my dad (quite begrudgingly) conceded and let Mum go with her second choice of Melinda. It’s quite different to the other two options!

FABRIC ME! My name was originally supposed to be Deana-Marie but with a sister named Dawn-Marie, people gave my mom a hard time. So she picked Kathleen at the last minute. No love of the name, no meaning behind it. I like it well enough, but growing up I was one of many Kathy’s. I decided I wanted to give my daughter an original name (Kyndall) and she HATES it. Can’t win, can we? LOL

Fabric me! My middle name is Irving, which was my grandfather’s middle name. When I was young my mom took me to a store, and the gentleman who owned it asked me my name. Being shy, I hid behind my mom’s legs instead of answering. The owner said, “Well, at least I know it’s not Irving,” at which my mom luaghed and said, “Oh yes it is!” Turns out, his name was Irving, too.

My parents could not decide on a name even when I was born and we were pretty much ready to go home. My mom was set on Gabriella and my Dad locked in on Sarah…neither one was budging. My grandparents came to visit at the hospital and noted that there was a Victorian Inn Hotel being built in town. The rest is history. Although, I’ve never once heard them call me Victoria, only Tori. Funny.

My mom liked the name Lisa Marie and my dad did always like Elvis, so I just kind of ended up with this name because my mom always wins arguments with my dad! I dislike the name Maria, so I am very happy to have ended up with Lisa.
