Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    FABRIC ME!

When my mother was pregnant with me and they were trying to figure out a name, one of her co-workers suggested it. My mother’s first name is my middle name but my first name is just random. :)

FABRIC ME! It wasn’t until middle school that I learned I was named after the Jordan in great gatsby and not the river. It was the first time my mom had heard Jordan as a girl’s name when she was reading while preggo.

…so do I win by most outlandish name? haha, but seriously, it’s my real name and in summery, my parents were hippies. There IS a slightly sweeter version though. On top of hippie mom and dad, my mom was told after her second child, that she would not be able to have anymore children. She then had a dream years later, (that entailed god sitting with her, and giving her a daughter etc) that was filled with this little girl. She found out shortly after that she was pregnant, and named me Rainbow, because it means ‘promise of god’. My full name (excluding last) is Rainbow Harvest Rose; that one is all hippie ;)

FABRIC ME! According to my Dad, I’m named after his brother, Alan, who died at age 17 from cancer. According to my Mom, I’m named for the heroin she admired in a book. Makes you wonder what lies Mom told Dad in order to get me named…huh? wink wink. I wanted to have a “normal” name like Jennifer, Heather, or Amanda throughout middle school, but that changed probably the minute 8th grade ended.

I wish there was a special story behind my name…growing up there were always so many people called Jessica…it was boring! Now that i’m a bit older, and the other Jessicas have moved away, my name has become more ‘mine’! It also made buying personalised items easier, because theres always the name Jessica! Mostly it was sold out though!! haha!

I had the most boring, common name. Now I’ve just gotten married and went through the whole name-changing process to a last name that is slightly less common. Every once in a while I do miss my old last name, though!

I have a French Canadian name (Jean-Christian) that translates in English to “John-Christian” which was named after a bible quote of the day at the Hospital where my Mom was giving birth (from John the apostle), and combined with “Christ” (Crhistian). It’s a very unique name, and I like it, but I always liked the name Marc for some reason.

I could TOTALLY use the fabric, too. I need curtains, upholstery, and even bedding, so I could put that 250$ to good use!

My name comes from The Lord of the Rings books — Lothlorien is the forest city where elves Galadriel and Celeborn live… yes, my parents are big nerds! It’s pretty funny that my hubby (who I met online) didn’t initially message me because he thought a username of Lorien was too pretentious :) Glad he got over that!
