Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    Fabric me!

I was named after a soap opera character, and the spelling was made different since “Ashley” is the traditional male spelling.

My grandmother sadly passed away just a few weeks before I was born. So my mother decided to combine my grandmother’s American name (Helen) with her given Italian name (Angelina). I have always cherished that.

FABRIC ME! My dad actually named me Jennifer Lauren but always intended for me to go by Lauren. I tried to change in 6th grade when I transferred schools to have people call me Jennifer because it was just easier than explaining over and over that I go by my middle name but my mom wouldn’t have it.

My name means “little darling” and my mom picked it because as she says she “always loved it.”

As a child I didn’t like my name because of the connection to the sitcom Roseanne, but now I love and embrace all things me, because life is just better that way! (and I’ve realized Roseanne was a great show too!!)

I’m not sure why my parents chose my name, but I do know that originally it was spelled Katherine. However, when my mom got my birth certificate in the mail she decided she wanted it spelled differently. They had Katherine literally crossed off and Kathryn was just retyped above the original spelling.

FABRIC ME! :) My parents were convinced I was going to be boy. For 9 months they called me Jonathan. Then Surprise! I was a girl. Since I was born in 1983, they went with Jennifer. Now I am one of 990.999,9999 Jennifer’s in this world. There were 7 Jennifer’s in my class at school and 4 more in my class at church. Of course there are almost as many Jonathans… so either way I was kinda screwed ;)

    FABRIC ME!

When I was born, my parents actually hadn’t picked a name. My dad liked Nicole, but my mom wasn’t completely sold with how it sounded with my last name. As my mom likes to tell the story, I was such a beautiful baby that all of the nurses called me ‘lady’ for awhile. This made my mom think of Lady Catherine and Catherine the great. So, I was named Katherine (don’t ask why a K and not a C like the people my mom thought of) and my middle name is Nicole. Fun fact: My husbands 1st gf’s name was Katherine and his 2nd gf was named Nicole. He was looking for Katherine Nicole ;)
