Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

When my crazy mom was in labor she still didn’t have a name, but she was reading the book Little Women so I was named Meg after the oldest daughter and then my middle name comes from the author Louise May Alcott. I like my name, its unique, I’ve never met another Meg before…besides those silly Megans waltzing around pretending to be a unique “Meg”.

FABRIC ME! My name is Lisa and my father loved the Nat King Cole song Mona Lisa and my mother was a hippie artist so I guess she had a connection to the painting. I always wished it was a longer name and Lisa was the nickname because I always wanted a nickname and never had one.

And yes, I do have an interesting naming story: my name was originally intended to be Melissa, but on the day I was born, there were 5 other Melissas in the nursery. My parents went back to the baby book and picked Melinda instead. It also means, “love song” which I think is extra special. :)

My parents were expecting a boy they were going to name James Thomas after my grandfather and uncle. I was actually nameless for 2 days before they settled on Kyrie. Most people assume it comes from the Catholic prayer “Kyrie Elision” (Translation: Lord have mercy) but they couldn’t be more wrong. My mother’s favorite song at the time was “Kyrie” by Mr. Mister.

My middle name, Sky was a suggestion from my grandmother.
