Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

I was named after my 2 grandmothers- Wiley was my mom’s mom’s maiden name and Elizabeth (my middle name) was after my dads mom!
I love having and original name- even if Wiley does mean “wet meadow”… How lame is that! Haha!

No special meaning, but a fun fact is that dr. told my parents I was definitely a boy and they’d picked the name Jesse. When I was born a girl, my mom said she was too tired to think of a new name, so I was named Jessie anyway.

The story goes that my mom was six months pregnant with me and still had not decided on a name. Then, one night, she was watching “Heart to Heart” with Stephanie Powers, reading “To Kill a Mockingbird,” which has the character Stephanie Crawford, and then the phone rang and it was my dad’s cousin Stephanie from Georgia. As you can probably guess, my name is Stephanie, and that’s where it comes from!

My parents (both of whom have dark hair) initially had a name picked out for me that they felt suited a dark-haired baby girl. When I was born blond they were totally thrown off, and had to go back to their baby name book to come up with something they felt “fit”. I’m brunette now but the name still works. My middle name is the same as my mom’s, a tradition we hope to continue with any girls my husband and I may have.

My parents think they “created” my name, combining their 3 (total) sisters – Susan KAY, ColLEEN, Dolores MARIE – to make “Kayleen Marie”. But, since it’s not a totally unique name, I’m thinking it just worked out nice that they could say that!

My mom actually was very purposeful when she named her children. She said she named us after things she wanted us to have in our lives. Thus I have a sister named Charity Faith, another named Destiny Sunshine and I am Harmony Lynn (Lynn is after a family friend who really helped my mom out when she was pregnant with me.)

My name is Stevie and I was named after Stevie Nicks (yes, I’m a female with the name Stevie). My mom was a huge Fleetwood Mac fan. When my mom was in labor, she ended up having to go into an emergency c-section so my dad wasn’t in the room. The hospital had run out of pink hats so they put a blue one on me. With the name Stevie and the blue hat on my head, my dad thought I was a boy when he first met me. No wonder I became such a tomboy!

I used to hate how different my name was in Elementary school, I actually got teased a lot because it was a boy’s name. I used to pretend my legal name was Stephanie. Now I love it and could not imaging having any other name in the world!

What could you possibly mean? Justynn isnt a typical name for a woman? No, in all honesty my name is usually my ice breaker. Justynn (Justin) my mother picked after some book character? It was tormenting growing up and having to deal with the first day of school teacher role call business, but I’ve since grown into it and really appreciate it. And like I said, It’s my ice breaker. All “Hi My Name is:” name tags generall end up with the words “Justynn, like the boys name, but I’m a girl, confusing I know” written on them.

My dad hated the name Grace and argued that every time I did something clumsy, someone would say, “Not so graceful, Grace!” SO, I used Grace as the middle name for MY daughter! :) Take that, Dad!

Lee is also my dad’s middle name. The cool thing about the song though is that it’s the same tune for Elvis’ “Love me tender” which was my father/daughter dance song at my wedding.

My unofficial name is Khiav Dim. It’s my Hmong name and it means Exodus. I was named after the second book in the Bible because I was a sickly baby and after my parents took me to church and had the Pastor pray over me, I got better. We have continued to go to church ever since.
