Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

My mom is a first grade teacher and had a lot of Rachel’s and Michelle’s in her classes through the years teaching and liked the name but wanted something a little different, so she came up with Rachelle instead. I was almost named Harletta, a family name…I think I would be a different person today!

I was named after my mom’s favorite flower, black eyed Susan. I hated my name growing up, there were so many Susans in my school, so I was always “Susan L.”. It has grown on me though, it’s classic!

My mother told me she always loved the name Hope. However I believe she first fell in love with the name from watching the soap opera days of our lives. When I brought this up to her and asked alls she said was don’t tell your father. My middle name was given to me by my father, an extension of the word angel.

My mother would claim that my name is the only one they could agree on, but my dad informed both of us when I was a teenager that both my first and middle names were names of girls he had crushes on when he was younger. Seeing as how my brother is named after both of our grandparents, I was a little bit miffed!

Ummm Brittany, like Brittany, France, that is it – nothing too special. Always wish I had a more unique, mysterious name, like “Scheherazade” or “Lucretia” or something strange, hehe!

But my maiden name which is Le Gare, means “the station” pretty steller if ya ask me! wooot!

My name was supposed to be my older sisters, but my parents couldn’t decide on a middle name that went well with it at the time. So they stored it away and three years later, they had a middle name they liked- it became mine and the rest is history. Apparently they and everyone else in America chose it the same year. I think I graduated highschool with 10 other Laurens.

I was told by the ultra-sound person that I was boy, so my parents planned to name me Daniel. But, on my birthday, surprise!–I was a girl….so my mom quickly thought of two names for me (Leah or Rebecca) and let my dad choose…my dad chose “Leah”….Leah is a Bible name, Hebew orgin, meaning “Weary, teary-eyed”….I’m not a fan of my meaning but I’ve learned to love my name because it isn’t very common and I think it’s very pretty sounding. :)

My name was supposed to be Chloe Louise but while my mom was still pregnant she had a dream about a cow who had that name and when she woke up she told my dad they had to come up with something else because she couldn’t give her daughter “a cow’s name”. So instead they went with Laura, which is my grandmother’s middle name.

My parents named me Tamrah because at the time there was a figure skater with the name and they liked it. They decided to spell it differently, though, because they thought it would be easier for everyone to spell. Which is not the case at all, but I don’t mind because it’s original. I’ve never wanted to change it!

My mum named me after a negro slave in a book she was reading when she was pregnant (although she has no idea what the book was called). When I was about 3 months old the Dolly Parton song came out & almost everyone who has ever met me has sung it to me at one stage or another. Luckily I love my name & the song :)
