Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    FABRIC ME!

My name was just one of the popular ones at the time. Thank goodness I didn’t get the name passed on generations “Fannie Louisa” (great grandmother Fannie, grandmother Louisa, her daughter Fannie, mine could have been Louisa but my mom stopped that tradition)

I have a baby book name (Alicia) – apparently they didn’t get very far! My brother and sister both have very classic names and are both named after a family member, so it’s funny that I have a little bit of an unusual name in comparison.

My name was chosen about a month before I was conceived, around the holidays. Clearly, my parents were thinking ahead. Mom said her and dad went out for a walk to check out the Christmas lights in the neighborhood and Dad suggested Holly if they had a girl… and 10 months later, I arrived. I guess it’s no coincidence that Christmas is my favorite holiday. :)

    FABRIC ME!!!
Well……from my understanding Kristin was a name on the back burner and as soon as my parents saw me they knew that was the one—–> as for “Noel” my daddy picked that one….I’m a December baby and I think this wasn’t even thought of until my dad saw me for the first time. I love my middle name…very proud of it!
As for my last name —-my maiden name was “Whiteman” ALWAYS mispronounced as Whitman like the candy….it has an E in it White-Man! I couldn’t be prouder to be a Whiteman even though it stuck me at the end of the line almost ALWAYS!! So…I thought I would get lucky and marry someone with an A B or C name…….God hade a different plan —–Veteto! If Whiteman wasn’t enough of a pronunciation nightmare…Veteto is even worse! “My husband always says: say it like your Italian “VEteto” ——>
Someone asked me one time over email how to pronounce it and this is what I came up with: “Vet” as in jet “e” as in elephant, and “to” as in the toe on your foot. ……..my dream did come true, I did move up 1 letter space in the alphabet! haha! I love every part of my name and couldn’t be more thankful!
What a great giveaway and a great idea for a question!

    Happy Harmonies,
    Kristin Noel

    FABRIC ME!

Like so many girls in the 70’s and early 80’s, I was named Jennifer. I don’t mind now, but in school I wished for something more original. To make matters worse, my maiden name was Jones. There were two other girls named Jennifer Jones in my little school alone. One with a truancy problem, so my parents occasionally received a call mistakenly informing them that I was not in school… :)

FABRIC ME!!! My mother was very young, (all of 17) and as she held her newborn baby in her arms she wandered an eye up to the television and began to watch an episode of “The Fall Guy” and there she was, Heather Thomas (actress) so thus I was named Heather, middle name given Marie as apart of my mother’s maiden name, St Marie and so here I am. Not much likeness to Heather Thomas must be my strong italian heritage passed from my father’s family. There was a period in High school that I wanted to change it so I went by the alias of Summer because I was cool.

    FABRIC ME!

I was supposed to be Matthew, but when I came out a girl my dad liked Rachel and my mom liked Rachelle (her family is of French decent). Somehow this came up when I was in first grade and I was MAD that they chose Rachel instead of Rachelle. I thought Rachelle sounded much fancier and girly. I was determined to change my name to Rachelle. I told everyone to call me Rachelle and wrote it on all my school assignments. My first grade teacher (who actually ended up being the pastor who married my husband and I) still remembers it and we laugh about it whenever I see her!
