Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric me! Not sure of the meaning behind my name but both first and middle have an interesting spelling. My family always joked that my dad filled out the birth certificate while my mom recovered from her c-section.

Fabric Me! I love my name…not too many people have it and my mom liked the name from an a soap opera. Her best friend at the time had a son 6 months before I was born and his name was Daniel Eric and mine is Erica Danielle.

My mom wanted to be rebellious since everyone in my family has an Italian name. She decided Irish was better! The “best” part is she didn’t know there were different ways to spell Meagan so she told the doctor to choose. So I blame him for never finding any souveniers with my correct spelling on it. :)

FABRIC ME! – Emily is just a name they liked. My middle name is Jakeh (pronounced jay-kuh). It’s from the Bible – Proverbs 30:1. I love that it’s different and that I was able to pass it onto my daughter, Ellison Jakeh.

My name was picked by my mum, if I was a boy my dad would have had the pleasure of naming me. The name my dad liked was Jethro. Oddly enough, my hubby’s name is Jethro! So 20 years later Dad got his wish haha! :-) x

FABRIC ME! I am told I was named after Julie Christie who was an actress back in the 60’s. On another note, I have bought IKEA curtain rods etc. several months back and just need to get fabric to make curtains for my den so fingers crossed I will win this!

Not sure where it came from, but when I was younger no one else had that name. I could never buy those name license plates or giant personalized pencils you find at amusement parks, and I really wanted both—so bad. My name is having a surge in popularity now, but alas, for me, the name license plate/giant personalize pencil ship has sailed.

Fabric Me! My name (Deborah) is Hebrew (I’m Christian) and my mom liked it because of the biblical connection (although we never attended church) and she liked long the biblical spelling (which means for the past 40 years I have had to say “orah” to every clerk who has asked me how to spell it ;)

FABRIC ME! Supposedly my father picked my name because I “came out” pink and purple. Something to do with reminding him of the flowers on a heather plant. I always wished I had a name with a shortened form available (i.e. Sam for Samantha or Becky for Rebecca).

FABRIC ME! I’m named after one of my aunts for a first name and my middle name is my grandmother’s maiden name. So I suppose what my name means is that my family cares about family heritage. For a long time I used to wish I had a different name, that was either more glamourous or more common. Then I realized Catherine really fits me, and since I grew up to value family as well, I’m pleased that my name connects me to women who I grew up respecting and learning from.
