Fab Freebie: Tool Time

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

I’m not even going to dance around this one: we’ve got a $200 Home Depot gift card up for grabs.

This week’s stellar prize comes direct from Home Depot themselves as part of their “What’s Your Pro Project” contest. But the good ol’ HD isn’t just asking about your upcoming heavy duty projects, they’re looking to lend a hand too. Thanks to their 1,200 local Tool Rental Centers, you can borrow over 325 professional tools, from power and hand tools to yard, garden and electrical equipment. Sure beats buying that aerator you only use once a year.

homedepottoolrentaldiyer

So if you want a shot at the $200 gift card, first check out their selection of tool rentals and then comment on this post with the phrase “GOTTA GET A [insert name of tool you’d most like to rent].” That’s right, to be eligible for the prize you have to tell us what tool you’d consider renting AND what project you might tackle with it (sorry folks, we’ve gotta be sticklers on this one). For instance, I’ve already been daydreaming about renting a powerwasher to do some heavy duty clean-up on our front porch. Plus, who doesn’t like cleaning and looking like a badass at the same time? If only I could powerwash the dishes…

homedepottoolrentalpressurewasher

Alas, we’re not eligible for the prize (soooooo jealous of you guys), but at least we get to hear about all your power tool fantasies and the pro projects you might be tackling soon. Entries will be accepted until Wednesday, March 25th at 8pm EST and the prize is only available to United States residents. The one, randomly selected winner will be announced later in the week. Good luck…

Any other questions you may have are answered in our Giveaway FAQs. Screen grabs courtesy of Home Depot Tool Rental Centers.

    Gotta get a drum sander!

We are starting to rip all the carpet throughout our entire house to refinish the hardwood floors. Thanks to my “still-not-potty-trained” Wheaten Terrier, we are desperate to simplify our lifes and this means getting rid of all CARPET!
We will be first-timers to the whole floor refinishing thing, so we will absolutely need one of these….with a full set of instructions! Thanks.

GOTTA GET An Airless Paint Sprayer. My son is doing his Eagle scout project for Save the Family Foundation, an Arizona non-profit that provides housing for homeless families until they get back on their feet. His project involves re-landscaping the front and back yards. There’s a fence around the back yard that really needs repainting, but since it is already such a big project, we weren’t planning to tackle the fence. A paint sprayer would allow us to do a little extra for such a deserving family/cause.

(Note: Re-submitted due to leaving out “gotta get” at beginning…)

As someone who spent the last year knee deep in home renovations (wall-demo, rewiring, new kitchen cabinets, rerouting plumbing, laying flooring) all with only the help of my husband and a plumber who was lucky enough to get our frantic call when said husband cut through the main water line a mere foot before the shut-off valve, I’m a big fan of Home Depot rentals. Our next big project is the backyard, and a lawn aerator, or tiller (or heck, bulldozer!) would sure come in handy with prepping our hard NC clay to lay down some grass seed in the yard.

So, I GOTTA GET something to help me break up the clay in my back yard.

We desperatly need to fence our backyard. My husband gave me a German Shephard puppy for Christmas and she is growing way faster than we imagined. She can now jump over the short picket fence in the front yard, which is so not cool.

Gotta get a compound miter saw!!!

This was an easy one. When my husband and I moved into our 1953 ranch a year and a half ago, we pulled up all the carpet and refinished the wood floors ourselves (using a rented sander from Home Depot, I might add!). The next thing on our to-do list is to install quarter round on the baseboards to finish up the job. I’ve got a miter box/saw at home, but this compound miter saw sure would make the job so much easier! Plus I’d love to use one anyway…I’m such a sucker for power tools :)

      Hey Emily,

Good question! I don’t know if a powerwasher will hurt your 1890s brownstone- I’d ask a specialist at Home Depot and see what they say. You can also test it in a super discreet spot and see how it goes.

We have heard (thanks Nichole!) that strong powerwashers can actually break the seal in between panes of glass in double and triple paned windows which results in that foggy appearance (not a good look) so be sure to use caution and control that strong stream as you go!

I’m sure you can ask any and all questions that you may have when you’re renting ’em- and of course you can always google things just to be sure (or test ’em in a concealed spot before blasting the whole house). Hope it helps!

      xoxo,
      Sherry
