I’m not even going to dance around this one: we’ve got a $200 Home Depot gift card up for grabs.
This week’s stellar prize comes direct from Home Depot themselves as part of their “What’s Your Pro Project” contest. But the good ol’ HD isn’t just asking about your upcoming heavy duty projects, they’re looking to lend a hand too. Thanks to their 1,200 local Tool Rental Centers, you can borrow over 325 professional tools, from power and hand tools to yard, garden and electrical equipment. Sure beats buying that aerator you only use once a year.
So if you want a shot at the $200 gift card, first check out their selection of tool rentals and then comment on this post with the phrase “GOTTA GET A [insert name of tool you’d most like to rent].” That’s right, to be eligible for the prize you have to tell us what tool you’d consider renting AND what project you might tackle with it (sorry folks, we’ve gotta be sticklers on this one). For instance, I’ve already been daydreaming about renting a powerwasher to do some heavy duty clean-up on our front porch. Plus, who doesn’t like cleaning and looking like a badass at the same time? If only I could powerwash the dishes…

Gotta get a belt sander! We had carpet on our stairs when we bought our townhome. We ripped the carpet off. Behold, pine stairs but with lots of crud and nicks. So we filled in with wood putty. The smarty pants we are we did not look to see if wood putty is stainable, and it is not!!! So we scoured the internet looking for pictures of painted stairs and visited all of our friendly home improvement stores (like Home Depot!) asking questions about painted stairs. We decided that we would paint the stairs and proceeded to prime all of them. So, the indecisive/crazy DIYers that we are we just recently decided to stain them instead … and now we have to sand off the primer …

Gotta get a airless paint sprayer. I am wanting to repaint my two bedrooms, including the ceiling in one. A sprayer would be a big help. My husband and I bought a house last May and have been remodeling since. I painted the rooms shortly after we bought the house, but am not loving the colors.

Gotta get a floor sander! There’s wall-to-wall carpet installed over my house’s original maple hardwood floors — have to uncover that maple and let it shine again!!
A panel jack is also a really handy rental — rented one of those last summer to do the ceilings in my new laundry room and renovated kitchen and it was the best $50 I’ve ever spent. Hooray for HD tool rental!!

Not only is it by far the manliest tool available to rent, but I have been itching to demolish a small concrete patch in the backyard (to make room for more landscaping). GOTTA GET A COMPOUND MITER SAW!! I NEED this to install crown moulding all over the house, but starting in our dining room. I actually took a workshop at the Home Depot this weekend and learned how to install it myself…I think (good thing Hubby is handy). During the lesson, I actually used this puppy and it is sweet!

“GOTTA GET A POWER WASHER” We have been needing to clean the siding of our house as well as pressure wash the deck to take off that old horrible looking paint that has been there far too long and re/stain the entire deck afterward. It would take years off the deck and allow us to entertain more often without cringing at the site of our old, ugly looking deck! Thank you so much for doing this! We would love to rent an airless paint sprayer. My son is doing his Eagle scout project for Save the Family Foundation, an Arizona non-profit that provides housing for homeless families until they get back on their feet. His project involves re-landscaping the front and back yards. There’s a fence around the back yard that really needs repainting, but since it is already such a big project, we weren’t planning to tackle the fence. A paint sprayer would allow us to do a little extra for such a deserving family/cause.
