How excited are we to be giving away a Model One Radio this week? You probably know that our cheery yellow one is one of our favorite things that we’ve bought for our new kitchen (more on that here). Sure it’s been dubbed “the best sounding table radio ever made” by some (MSNBC in this case), but our love for it stems first and foremost from its looks. It’s one good looking radio. But that’s not to say that we don’t crank up the radio (or an iPod playlist thanks to the auxiliary input in the back) and enjoy a family dance party every now and then…

RADIO ME! This radio would be the perfect wedding gift for my fiance. He loves listing to talk radio and the blue and white retro styling is right up his alley. I got him a watch, but he already knows about it and I think this would be a sentimental surprise that he would enjoy for many years to come.

I would use it to listen to music as I cook, mostly country, some rock and roll and my husband would probably listen to sports games if we don’t get the channel on the TV! Also, I would probably let it play throughout the day for my furrbaby to listen to and keep her company when we aren’t home.

RADIO ME! I am a radio nerd. I have a 6 disc changer in my car and pretty much never use it, preferring instead to surf the radio when I drive. For some reason a song I’ve heard a million times is unappealing from my cd, but caught randomly on the radio, is suddenly worth singing along to.

RADIO ME! NPR (Chicago’s WBEX) is my radio lifeline during my very long commute and while doing pesky household chores. A little shout out to Chicago’s WXRT for being the best approximation of my random music taste and often anticipating what I want to hear before I even know it.

There is a radio constantly on in my son’s room. In college, I did an experiment which supported that music helps stimulate the part of the brain responsible for memory (instrumental music without words is best, lyrics that are more familiar to you is a bit more distracting.) I’m hoping it’ll help him A. gain an appreciation for music since his daddy plays saxophone B. I like watching him dance (which is more of a wiggle but still super cute and C. Maybe it’ll help with his memory and object recognition. Maybe?
