Fab Freebie: Straight From The Art

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

This week’s giveaway comes from a site that so chock full o’ good stuff that it was a challenge to hone in on the perfect freebie items for this week. We’re talking about Artful Home, a virtual window into over a thousand artists’ studios that gives you access to 12,000+ original art pieces – from wall art and sculpture to furniture and accessories. It’s kinda like Etsy, but contributing artists are all professionals who are selected by a panel of art adjudicators.

ArtfulHomeHomepage

So we sifted through the site and fell in love with several pillows and, since we couldn’t settle on just one, we’re letting this week’s lucky winner choose from the four pillows shown below: the nature-inspired linen pillows by Mariah Wren or the graphic, eye-chart pillow by Heather Lins. I know, tough decision, eh?

ArtfulHomePillows

  • PRIZE: Your choice of one of the four pillows shown above (valued at $90 – $95).
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the phrase “I HEART ART” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: Tell us your favorite piece of art currently in your home, whether it’s a piece of fine art made by a professional or fun art made by a preschooler.
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSED: Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One and only one this week.
  • ELIGIBILITY: The prize ships to anywhere in the US and Canada.
  • THE USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    I heart art!

My love had a painting commissioned for me from a local art student. It is a reinterpretation of a fauve work. Love it!

I HEART ART! My college days were spent studying art history and my post-college years have been spent working at the first modern art museum in the U.S. So it is fair to say that I really heart art. My favorite piece is a batik that my mom made in college.

    “I HEART ART”

I would have to say that my favorite piece of art in our house right now… would be the three photographs taken by my mom around my hometown in NY. There are three different pictures taken in the winter with snow on the ground of the Hudson River, the railroad tracks and trees in a field.

    I heart art!!

My fav piece of art is the landscape oil painting my uncle (a well-known artist in St louis) painted for me last Christmas. It is of a photo I took out in the country so it has meaning to me because I’ve been there, and now have a permanent reminder of that area in my house.

    I Heart Art!

My favorite piece of art work is a giant stick arrangement that I made for over my fireplace. I spray painted it black and sprinkled a little bit of glitter on it, so it sparkles just a tab when the lights or candles shine on it.

I HEART ART! We have an old original painting in our den (which desperately needs remodeling!) that I purchased as a wedding / housewarming gift for us 11 years ago. It’s called “The Student” and has an old world feel to it, with subtle golds, browns and reds in it.

My favorite piece(s) of art is a series my sister painted. She painted huge canvases to look like the covers of my favorite books. They’re beautiful and so much more meaningful to me than just an off-the-rack print.

I Heart Art. My favorite piece of art is the wedding gift I gave my husband–it is a picture of how the sky looked the night we met as seen from the place we met. I just looked and it seems that the company that created it is no longer in business. Bummer!

My favorite piece is something I found at the thrift store for $1. It’s a woman’s head with a spoon poised right in front of her mouth, the background is a lemon shade of yellow. Kind of strange but interesting.

I heart art! My favorite piece in our house is a find from an estate sale. It was pretty cheap ($35) and is a beautiful watercolor. I love love love it and don’t mind staring at it and imaging the things in the dark forest it depicts. Strangely it is the one thing in our house that my husband doesn’t like. Go figure.

My favorite piece of art in our home is a gorgeous painting we bought on our honeymoon. It’s a large portrait of an African man done by a semi-famous Parisan woman who travels throughout Africa doing portraits in poor communities. We saw it on our honeymoon in Paris and new it was a must-have :)

    I HEART ART
Well we just bought our first home and have very limited art pieces at the moment (boo!) but my favorite would have to be the beautiful home made pottery dishes that were given to us for our wedding. They were made by a local artist in the area where my husband grew up and it was nice to receive a special gift that wasn’t off our registry!

My favorite artwork are some antique Japanese woodblock prints I picked up on the cheap off eBay. I ended up spending more framing them than I did on the art itself, but I do think that a great frame can elevate just about anything to gallery status.
