    I’M HAUTE!

I got an internal frame camping/hiking pack that normally retails for about $500 for only 35 bucks! The best part was that because I snagged it from Unclaimed Baggage in Alabama, before it landed on my back, it had traveled the world and had patches from several countries sewn all over it.

Just the other day, I used a bunch of coupons at Whole Foods and saved 7-8 bucks. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but it was pretty exciting at the time.

I got my 42″ phillips LCD Tv on discount from target. Originally $1299, but since it was already on sale last one in stock, a display model, and whoops-they lost the remote. I walked out of there for under $600 including my new universal remote, 3 year I can set-it-on-fire and leave at the store warranty and ridiculous Florida sales tax.

I’M HAUTE! Best deal lately were free bunk beds from a coworker — perfect for when my 2 small ones (age 2 and 4) move up into “real” beds. Now we just have to rearrange the whole house (it’s a long story).

This isn’t related to a home at all but I scored a high-end brand-name bridle for my horse off ebay that retails for 3x as much – and it was brand new! It’s an all-time Ebay thrill for me.

Hard to say…. I am a coupon nut so I get great deals all the time. I guess maybe last year I got tons of toys at Target 75% off for christmas/my daughters birthday. And it wasn’t junk either, stuff she loved like dress up, sleeping beauty barbie, a matching horse… all kinds of goods.

When my husband and I got our first apartment, I was a huge craig’s list furniture stalker. We got a 6 piece Crate and Barrel dining set that was in near perfect condition for $350 (originally $1800 at the store) from someone who was moving cross country and just wanted to get rid of stuff.

We also got a couch and loveseat that they had professional cleaned and had nice Sealy down cushions. It was originally listed for $150 for the set. The owners had rennovated 2 brownstone apartments into one and in the process, cut out a good chunk of hall space by adding a wall near their door that was apparently key for getting furniture in and out of their apartment. Getting the couch out became a nightmare, but when we finally did get it out 2 hours later, they told us to just take the set for free. They were just glad to be rid of it. Score!

Im always looking for a bargain…From buying clothes, grocery, and even ordering Pizza online with Coupon Codes! The best deal I have gotten was when I bought a used car a few years ago. The owner was asking for $13k and I hustled it down to $9k…The owner was desparate to sell to move out of state. and I sold the car a year later for $11k.

My favorite deal was just a few weeks after we moved into our new apartment last year, and I had been scouring thrift stores and craigslist for furnishings. I stumbled into a second-hand shop that just happened to be having its annual 50% off everything sale! As a bonus, this shop is one that donates all its profits to a hospital, and prices are reasonable to begin with. So I made my husband come down to the store to okay all my purchases and pick out some things for himself. I think at least a third of all our furniture was purchased that day!

I’m haute for a deal! The best deal I ever got was ten years ago in Washington DC. I was just moving in to my first apartment after college. I wanted a wooden futon, but was broke as a joke. I put a picture of the desired type of futon on Craigslist. A nice gentleman said, he had one, still in the box and I could have ti for free if I hauled it. He was moving and no longer needed it. When I arrived with a fried to haul it, the nice man couldn’t let me (a 22 year old girl) carry it so he came with my friend and I and hauled it up the stairs for us. Turns out it was a brand new Crate & Barrel futon, brand new it would have been a few hundred dollars. What a nice man and a nice deal!

I can’t think of any huge bargain purchases, but I find lots of little ones. Like I once got a super cute (and barely worn!) shirt, cardigan, and dress at a garage sale for $5 total. Baskets for Christmas gift baskets for 25 cents each at the DAV. Oh and my FAVORITE purse ever was scored for $2 at a thrift store. It had never been used and I get lots of compliments on it!
