How about the very next thing I’m signing up for? Flood insurance.
My basement filled to the top of the steps leading to the basement. The very top. Couldn’t see my front yard, backyard or driveway — water everywhere. My rainboots weren’t tall enough when I went out my front steps. The water poured right into my boots (my logic was that I was keeping my toes covered and safe!)
Luckily, no water in the main level of the house and we got the cars out just in time (including having random folks wade up to help us push one that wouldn’t start). Kindness of strangers.
Flood-ravaged stuff is lining the curbs of my neighborhood. People sitting outside today (thank goodness for the sun!) sorting and drying and trashing.
Two homes on the other side of town actually collapsed!
Gotta keep things in perspective. While I had more water than I ever wanted, I also got to see I have more friends than I ever knew — as the offers and check-ins rolled in. What a lucky, lucky girl.
As for the lovely sign, I’d LOVE to win one and put it right at the entry of my home. She DESERVES something special after what she’s been through this weekend!

I am so sorry you are going through this. Our house flooded in June due to the river in our town over topping its banks. We didn’t have flood insurance either (we were told they had perfected our flood control system) and had 9 feet of water on the main level of our ranch style house. It is an awful feeling and I hope and pray all of you on the east coast can work together to rebuild your lives.
