Fab Freebie: Shine Bright Like A Diamond

How does $500 towards new lighting for anyone in the world sound? We’ve added four new additions to our lighting collection at Shades of Light, so we figured a giveaway was a fun way to introduce them to you guys. Nearly a year and a half ago when we launched our first collection with them (more on that here), we knew we wanted a cool flush mount light (you know, to fight the good fight against boob lights everywhere), which was solved with the Diamond Ceiling Light. And our yearning for a geometric table lamp was remedied with the Metal Strap Lamp Base. We also added another larger scale hanging option to the mix (these geometric Diamond Lanterns) along with some urchin-like Spiky Pendants. And everything in the collection is still priced at $99 or less.

Shades Of Light Giveaway

This giveaway is actually for $500 towards anything at Shades of Light, so you don’t have to spend it on lights – you can also choose from their rugs, furniture, mirrors, and beyond!

Please use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter (it might take a second to load, but it should eventually pop up below this paragraph). This giveaway is available to anyone in the world!

Two of the light fixtures in my apartment (one in the foyer, one in the hallway) are from the 1950’s. I’m not talking cool-kitschy-modern-fun 1950’s, but more of a rusty-brass-bug-and-dust-collection-apparatus. The glass in them casts a heinous yellow light no matter what variety of bulb I buy or how many times I scrub them. I’d even settle for builder-grade boob lights over these monstrosities! I’d LOVE to replace them, knowing I’d be able to take new ones with me when I move.

Love these. We bought our first house in December and put in a really cool light fixture above our dining room table. We need another light in the living room (it’s open concept) and the diamond lantern light would go with the dining room light so well! The other diamond ceiling lights would then flow so well into the hallway which currently has three 1970s (in a bad way) lights.

So if I win, I know what I’m getting :)

Thanks for always hosting such amazing giveaways!!!

Oh, wow! Nothing could be more timely. I just renovated my kitchen and was looking for a light fixture that I could see through. I painted the back wall of the kitchen in chalkboard paint on which I’m going to write “Cherish the Lively Cook”. It was a sentence that popped up on the refrigerator poetry one day several years ago. I’ve been waiting all this time to use it but I want to be able to see it instead of some clunky chandelier with semi opaque shades. The pentagonal pendants may just do the trick! Of course, winning would be great too. This was a foreclosed property a year ago and I still have a lot of work to do on it.

So, I’ve been thinking about converting our bathroom boob light to a different flush mount light for a while now, and I love your diamond light… but my problem is that most of our current boob lights fit at least 2 60-watt bulbs. Particularly in our bathroom, where we have only the one light that has a total of 120 watts in it (plus a window that lets in a moderate amount of natural light), I’m trying to figure out if switching over to this light would be enough wattage… Does the fact that it’s bare bulb increase the amount of light that it gives out? I figure I would have to try it in the space first to really figure it out, but I’d love to know if anyone has experience replacing a higher wattage boob light with something like this!

      June 18, 2014 at 5:45 pm

We’ve noticed that bare bulbs do tend to put out a little more light than those with a shade assuming you’re comparing the same wattage since shades absorb some of the light, but it would only put out 60 watts, so that might not be enough for the whole bathroom if you use traditional bulbs. If you use a CFL or an LED you can usually get a lot more light without worrying about wattage though (for example, an energy saving bulb could emit the equivalent of 120 watts while only using 40 watts). Hope that makes sense! Anyone else have tips for Jessica?
