Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I was never good at sharing the back seat of the car with my big brother… when we got a minivan when I was 10, I somehow declared the way way back my domain and we were all much happier!

Oh teaching your kids….well right now I have 17. 17, 11 – 13 year olds….they still make me laugh. As in “Hey Mrs. J. Have you ever heard of this band called..its uh…you probably don’t know them……. called Weezer? Because they are awesome!” Being a teacher sure does have it’s moments!

I grew up with 5 other siblings Brady Bunch style and we shared everything – we didn’t have that much so we rarely fought. Hope I do as good of a job with my kiddos as my parents did!

I was in 10th grade on a three week tour of Europe with my high school band. My two best friends roomed with me. We left behind belongings in every hotel room stayed in, and by the end of the trip all three of us were using the same toothbrush!

Share me! I started work last fall at an art program for 1st through 3rd graders, after growing up with a family and friends that is, at the moment, all +20 (so read: no experience). I was worried I wouldn’t know how to interact with them but right away I had a genuine moment of connection with a six year old. We were talking about wearing our big sisters’ hand-me-downs and she said “She has the BEST sweaters!” and I rattled back “I know, and her SHOES!” – and discovered that a spontaneous friendship can happen with a six-year-old. I’m thinking of getting certified to teach now!

SHARE ME! I once broke something in my parent’s house when I was a kid. My younger brother was only 4 or so and so I convinced him he did it and let him get in trouble for it. I felt bad later so I confessed and got in even more trouble than I would have if I had just owned up to it originally.

I have 3 sisters and we all shared one tiny “closet” bathroom growing up. My parents had to put a 6 minute bathroom time limit for each of us in the mornings. Needless to say, I take much longer showers now just because I CAN! :)

For most of my childhood I had to wear my oldest brother’s clothes. The worst moment for me was when in the middle of a regular math class in second grade I was called out of the class to go to the National TV station for a piano recording session. Without phone lines (in a former USSR Republic) I had to play for the National TV Station in my oldest brother’s jeans and his blue “soldier” sweater. It was a great recording that was broadcast a few weeks later and made my parents very proud, but I remember running out from the TV room crying from embarrassment. I imagined my debut concert to be in a beautiful princess dress…

I always make my husband share his ice cream with me. Every night I refuse to get myself a bowl of ice cream but then always wind up eating at least 1/2 of my husbands bowl. Pretty sure that instead of sharing he wishes I would just get my own bowl.

This is a story of a monkey biting me. It was on Gibralter (yes, they have lots of monkeys on the rock of Gibralter. weird, huh?) and he climbed on to me and discovered I had M&M’s in my pocket that I didn’t share quick enough. Since I was a bad sharer he bit me. For me was a highlight of our family trip to Europe since it led to the development of my alter ego Monkina who was just a normal girl until she got Super Monkey Powers from a monkey bite!!! Did I mention I was 12? And that I wrote an entire comic book about the episode? And imagining my superpowers kept me entertained for years after?
    Monkina, out.

Growing up, I don’t recall ever having to share anything with my sister who is 2 years younger, but got to share lots of first with her… I remember being told I had to wait until I was x, to get whatever it is I wanted. Like when I wanted my ears pierced, I had to wait until I was 6, so when I turned 6, I got to “share” the experience with my 4 year old sister, who also got her ears pierced at the same time. It happened again when I was 9 and wanted a phone in my room – Santa brought one and yep, I got to “share” that experience with my 7 year old sister as she also got a phone for her room. Oh, the sharing memories! :)

SHARE ME! Shared a queen sized water bed with my sister. Not fun. My mom filled it up too high so every night we ended up in the cracks on either side of the bed. Finally we put our earrings in the bottom to see if we could pop it. We did. Didn’t have to share a bed again. Word.

I have been very open about our struggles with trying to conceive, so sometimes I find myself talking to my boss or brother and realize I’m probably giving them more information than they even knew existed in the baby making world (sort of oversharing, but they ask the questions so I just give the answers)

Growing up my family of 5 shared one tiny bathroom. My sister and I would always be in the bathroom getting ready together even if one of us was already finished. We live half of the country apart now, but when we get the few and far between chances to visit each other you would catch us sharing the bathroom still!
