Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

My sister and I shared a room for a while. And one day I got mad at her (surprise) and started throwing her stuffed animals all over the room. One hit the ceiling fan that was on high, broke one of the fan blades, came down, and hit her right on head. She cried. I got spanked. But my revenge was complete.

So when we first started teaching out little one to share, she thought the concept was really novel… especially when it came to her food or drink. For weeks we’d be sitting around the dinner table and she’d pick up her sippy cup, raise her eyebrows, tilt the glass and say, “Share with me!” We kindly declined and told her that food and drink isn’t something you normally share if you have your own plate/cup/etc.
One day, while at Chikfila (a fast food chain in the South), she was eating chicken strips and my hubby reached over and grabbed one. Before he could pop it in his mouth she looked at him completely straight-faced and said, “you know Daddy, food is not something I normally share. But you can have it since you already put your fingers on it.” I almost fell out of my chair laughing…

SHARE ME!! I recently made an AWESOME chocolate cake the other night and when my fiance got home he was so pleased to see how productive I had been while he was gone and so thoughtful to make it for him… I had to make a choice, share and continue letting him think that I slaved in the kitchen or expose my selfish chocolate needs… I shared and let him think it was for him. Win Win, right?

My sister and I were the same size growing up, and could wear a lot of the same clothes. This led to lots of bartering and disagreements (read: knock-down fights) before school each morning. She still has a scar on her arm to prove it, and my dad’s favorite thing to tease us about now is that we used to scream at each other, “You’re not going to be in my wedding!” We are now best friends, were the Maids of Honor in each others’ weddings, and since we live near each other, we still share clothes. Minus all the fighting!

The ironic thing is that I now have 3 girls who are all 2-3 years apart, so the chances of my past coming back to haunt me are sky-high! I can already hear the slamming doors…

I remember sharing a room with my brother for a short time when we were really, really little. He was still in his crib and I was in my big girl bed. I had made the mistake of keeping my markers in the dresser drawer that was right by his crib. After “nap time” one day, my mom came in to find he discovered my markers in the drawer and drew all over the wall next to his crib. I am thinking that was probably the end of me keeping my markers in the dresser drawer!

SHARE ME! My worse sharing story comes from my first year of graduate school when I shared my studio apartment with bed bugs. Ew. After months of exterminator visits I ended my relatioship with the critters and moved out. (I should also say that as soon as I found out I had them I threw away my mattress…and two hours later it was no longer next to the dumpster, so I guess I shared my bed with that person too. That’s what you get for dumpster diving!)

When my little brother and I were younger, I was terrified to go on a roller coaster in Disney World. Instead of hounding me like everyone else, my brother stopped and prayed for me not to be scared. It was the sweetest moment! And I loved the roller coaster! :)

Learning to share the covers with someone was hard at first! And sharing my time with my little boy can be hard, but it’s worth it :). I also love to share food with people by making them dinner when they need help (like after a baby) or dessert if they need a pick-me-up. :)

Well, our family of six shared one and a half baths from when the oldest was 5 (youngest 2 mos) until a year ago. (oldest now 17, youngest 11) Now we have 3 full baths and there is much more harmony. Oh, and they’re getting a whole lot more practice on how to clean a bathroom. (their futures wives will thank me)

On many many family trips my sister and I had to share a hotel bed. There are endless funny stories but the best is when she was laying on the side of the bed that was closest to the wall and had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night- apparently I kneed her in the bladder while asleep and she had to jump over me and run to the bathroom just in time- the next morning she told me about it and I had no idea

My very frugal parents purposefully dressed me in boys clothing as a child so we could hand the clothes down to my younger brother. Needless to say, I was not the most fashionable one in my class and got picked on a lot. As an adult, I still don’t wear a lot of “girly” stuff, but I do make sure I look feminine!

Share me! I don’t remember the circumstances very much – but I think I borrowed my sisters pants without her permission once to preface the punishment.

The punishment? I was told to get into a sleeping bag from my sister and her friends (I was the youngest, oh the stuff I did and put up with). Needless to say…instead of being carried around and laughing like they said, I was promptly tied to a telephone pole, then they pulled the sleeping bag away.

    Then they pants me.

We lived on a main street.

    And a cop drove by.

    And laughed.

Don’t borrow your sisters pants without permission.

I can share a harrowing story.

We just closed on our first house Friday. One of the things we checked off our “to-do” list was cleaning out the extremely packed french drain. That thing was FILLED with incredibly wet soil (and it hadn’t really rained in weeks) so it’s a good thing we did it. And what else did we find in that soil? The fattest happiest worms you’ve ever seen. MILLIONS of them. The whole mass of dirt was writhing. *shudder*. And if you don’t think worms are particularly scary (and really they’re not) it tripped something in my brain that reminded me of one of the first horror movies I ever saw where I man is fishing in the middle of a lake and a his can of worms gets possessed or something and millions of worms starting slithering all over the boat and eat him! I had successfully repressed that memory until this weekend…

Yep, that tiny space in our VW Rabbit that was just big enough for your feet is where I had to lay. And my pillow fell out on the ground every time someone opened the door!

Share Me! I grew up with 3 sisters, so naturally sharing was an issue… My older sister and I were forced to take sharing to the next level when my loving parents bought her the king size waterbed she had been begging for. Now we were in the process of building a new house (with solo bedrooms for all of us!)when this occurred. Our current bedroom was only large enough for this giant bed and a dresser. For the next 8 months we had to share a waterbed. 2 girls ages 14 and 12 had to share a waterbed…It was really terrible at the time, but now we look back and laugh at the memories of sleeping in that bed.
