Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

7 years ago today I had 3 extra tickets to the first ever Washington Nationals game.
3 guys were standing in line to by tickets so I offered them the tickets.
One of those guys turned out to be my beshert and we’re still together.

SHARE ME! I had to share a bathroom with my twin brother growing up and we each had our own entrance from our bedrooms. We always fought about this because we would always accidentally lock the other out from their door. He got so mad at me one day that he banged on the door really hard and accidentally broke it in half! Really weak hollow core doors obviously… but man my mom was mad at him for it!” Haha!!

SHARE ME!!! My freshman year of college I got paired with a Romanian grad student in the dorm. It was terrible. First, she washed her giant panties in the sink and hung them up in our room to dry. She was always using my stuff without asking, and for some reason at the end of the semester she turned off my alarm, so I almost missed my Calculus final exam! I would have slept through it if a friend from across the hall hadn’t also been in the class and woken me up when she realized I as still snoozing. I was SO GLAD to get out of that dorm room.

My sister and I were told to share for years. It worked out so well that she had to put an extra lock on her closet door and hide the key. Little did she know that I knew where that key was all along.

SHARE ME! I once had to share a hotel room with my boss…and I talk in my sleep. I was so worried that I would say something inappropriate or not particularly nice that I barely slept the whole trip. When I did sleep, I had nightmares where I would say fire-worthy stuff in my sleep. I would then wake up in a panic, unsure if my nightmares were real or not.

In reality, I did sleep talk some, but apparently it was too garbled for my boss to decode… thank goodness!

As I’ve gotten older I find myself saying things my mom used to say to me: “Because I’m the mother.” “Because I said so.” “Wear a jacket.” “Because mom’s know everything.”
Oh, wait a minute – I never said that last one, but my mom sure did!
We live in NJ and I went to college in DE. I always had a very early bedtime living at home; the folks were pretty strict. So when I went away, all bets were off!
During my junior year in college I was in an apartment and went out one night, coming in at 1:30 in the morning.
The next day I was talking to my mom and she asked me what time I got in the night before, and I lied and said, “Oh, about 11 o’clock.”
And she called me on it and said, “Really? How about 1:30am?”
To this day (I’m 51 years old) I have no idea how she knew! My roomies never told her (one was home and asleep and the other was out later than I was!). I have no clue how she knew and she still won’t tell me!!!!

Share Me! Worst roommate sharing story was when my friend clogged the toilet in my bathroom and it over flowed all day long. My room was filled with water and it was a holiday weekend so getting the apt complex to do anything about it was worse than mopping up all the water.

SHARE ME! My first cousin, who is five years younger, and I are very close and more like sisters really. I was the Maid of Honor in her wedding this past weekend. It was the most beautiful and perfect ceremony I have ever been to. The best part of all was seeing so many of our family and friends come together to witness their union. Sharing LOVE is what life is all about. :-)

share me! When I was a kid, I was forced to share all my toys with my younger cousin. My mom likes to remind me often of the time I spent hours constructing a city out of building blocks, only for my cousin to come in and King Kong her way through it. I was apparently heartbroken, and I’m pretty sure that has something to do with how particular I am about my space and my things today!

SHARE ME! I’m not good at sharing food. I made a birthday cake for a friend of mine and brought it to his party. At some point, I decided that I was ready for cake and started cutting out a slice. Someone called me on it and so I sang Happy Birthday to the friend very quickly and then proceeded to eat the cake. We still laugh about it. :)

Your suggestion reminded me of a business trip I took a year or two ago with about ten coworkers. 3 other ladies, 6 guys. As we live in a smaller city, we had several layovers and ended up stranded in Detroit with hundreds and hundreds of other travelers due to tornadoes. Nearly every hotel was full but we managed to get the last 4 rooms at a very shady motel in a not-so-nice part of town. The ladies VERY willingly agreed to share one room, which we locked ourselves in and didn’t leave until daylight. We made it home the next night, but our bi-yearly business trips have started to become somewhat of a fiasco. We haven’t successfully made a trip without significant delays, cancellations, etc.

SHARE ME!! My husband and I have been trying in vain to get our 3 year old son to share with his big sister when it comes to all things toy related – stuffed animals, legos, colors, playdoh, etc. Lately however, it seems his sister is less willing to share with him though, especially when it involves suckers and easter candy. So, he’s resorted to sneaky tactics to getting others to share. The latest, as I was drinking my coveted Vanilla Dr. Pepper from Sonic the other day, he looks at me and says, “God loves us when we share mommy”. Talk about guilt!!

Share Me! – For two years my college roomate and I lived in a cute 1940’s bungalow. The only problem was the teeny tiny bathroom. We had to share one bathroom between two girls for two years. One person could barely move around in the bathroom and the shower was reminiscent of Buddy’s shower in the elf village from the movie ELF — you had to splash the water up to your hair since the shower head was at about chest level. We did love that home though!

I hated having to drive my younger brother to school when we were in high school… so I used to lock the windows so that he couldn’t put his window down (and therefore he would be hidden, in my mind…)

I’m currently teaching my cat to share with a new kitten I just got. The kitten came with a few cans of wet food, which is a special treat for my cat, and she is eating as much as she can as fast as she can in efforts NOT to share (even though they have separate dishes) and has (I think) finally figured out that the kitten is in fact sharing with her.
