Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

SHARE ME!! I grew up with young parents who didn’t have much, and constantly was forced to wear hand-me-downs from older family members. One of the gracious “donators” was my cousin Kara. We have always shared a special bond, and wearing her “cool” clothes made me feel even closer to her. She remains one of my dearest friends today.

SHARE ME! I traveled abroad to Costa Rica in college. My friend Caron and I shared a room— we went to Puntarenas for a surf competition our first weekend there. We got home late Sunday and so we didn’t unpack our bags Monday before heading off to class. We got home and saw this dark object in the corner of our bathroom! I threw a sock at it and it unfolded itself— it was a huge vagabond crab! It must have been a foot across (well at the time it seemed to be….) We screamed and refused to go back in our room until our host father removed it. Good times :)

SHARE ME! My brother and I shared a car in high school, leading to a lot of embarrassment for me and entertainment for him. I remember riding home from school one day with a styrafoam head sticking out of the window and native american drumming music blaring from the stereo. He was amused; I wasn’t. (Looking back on it though, it was kind of funny.)

I’ll go with a funny story: A few years ago while on summer vacation my husband and I were goofing around and ended up in a high speed chase around the room. One minute we were laughing and having a blast when all of a sudden BANG, I ran INTO the footboard of the bed which happened to be sticking out about 6 inches past the mattress. I practically did a front flip and landed face down on the floor. Tears instantly started flowing but were accompanied by uncontrollable giggles. Two adults being such silly kids ended with me flat on the floor! It’s been two years and I still have a DENT in my leg from the hit!
    True story!

After my husband and I got married, we decided to move in with his parents to save up our money. About 2 months later my husband’s uncle moved out of his house and brought his 3 kids with him. Between us, my in-laws, my 2 sister-in-laws still living at home and his family. We had 10 people all sharing 1 bathroom. Terrible….

My sister once had to share a hotel room with her boss on a business trip. Bad enough, but then it was a new fancy avant-garde hotel in Spain–so the bathroom walls were clear glass.

Once at a Twilight convention (don’t laugh), when I was first checking into my room, I had a difficult time reading the room number that was written on the card key. I went to the door that I thought was my room, the key worked. Went into the room and things seemed “off”. Room was very clean, but I noticed a phone charger and opened bottle of water. I proceeded to the closet and saw someone’s clothing in there. Obviously the lady at the front desk couldn’t read her own hand writing either and activated the card for the wrong room.

I’m just glad I didn’t decide to take a dump before checking out the room.

When my three sons were small(now 25,23,& 22)they “shared” their baby sister with their respective classes for “show & tell” Now 16, Gabby has been the recipient of so much love and sharing from her big brothers over the years.

SHARE ME! My sister and I still laugh about having to share a punishment for fighting with each other when we were ages 8 and 10. We were battling over everything! My mom took some scarves, tied our wrists and ankles together, and told us, “Figure out how to work together.” It was a few hours, and the kids in the neighborhood all came over to see what fun new game we were playing. Though reluctant at first, we did it; when one had too pee, guess what? By the end of three hours, we were giggling and using our teamwork skills to come up with new ways to do things together. It was a funny, harmless, inventive way to get us to change our actions.

When it comes to pie my dad has not always been good at sharing: he has been know to cut one piece of pie out and put it on a plate…for they rest of the family to share. He then proceeded to eat the whole rest of the pie himself…in one sitting. And my dad is as skinny as a rail – go figure.

The first time my husband and I met, we were out to dinner with a few of our close friends. I have a habit of “sharing” desserts from other people’s plates. My husband, an Army Sergeant at the time, slapped my fork straight out of my hand as I came toward his plate full of chocolate cake.

I learned never to do THAT again.

I had to share a bathroom with my sister (well the whole family) when I was living at home, and one morning when I was 13, my sister was brushing her hair with her left hand while I was curling my bangs with my right hand. Well, her arm bumped mine, and the curling iron when directly into my eye. I had a huge blister across my eyeball and when we went to the emergency room, found out that I had burned off my cornea. Great news though, that’s one of your body parts that regenerates, and it grew back in 3 days while I wore an eye patch like a pirate. No vision problems or lasting effects.

During the night I received two phone calls saying, “hey baby hey baby…do you want beer?” I had to call the front desk to stop calls to my room.
