Fab Freebie: Sharing The Love

*** This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below! ***

Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!

As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!

Joss Main Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

My sister and I shared a bedroom for a while growing up – and the only memory I have of being spanked was because we wouldn’t stop bickering late at night! Talk about harrowing!

I like to think back to the time when my friends and I all were pretty poor in our big city apartments. None of us ever had the means to make a huge meal since like 90% of our income went to rent. So one Thanksgiving we did a HUGE pot luck with 15-20 people and everyone just had to bring one dish to share. I have never EVER ate so well in my life, and no one was put out money wise. Plus it was just so much fun having that many “holiday orphans” under one roof, spilling out from the kitchen into the living room into the hallway. Not even remotely enough seats so people were sprawled out on the floor. It will always be one of my favorite memories from that time of my life.

SHARE ME! Growing up in a 3 bedroom house I shared with my parents, grandma and 3 brothers I though I had it rough, till my dad told me that he grew up in a one bedroom apartment with 2 brothers and a cousin. Ah, city living.

In middle school I gave up my solo room to shared a room with my youngest sister for about a year… giving the middle sister a chance to have her own room for a while. It turned out to be pretty fun to room with my little sis, and I’m closer with my middle sister because of it. Hooray for sharing!

My favorite story to tell (although it was scary at the time) was when our puggle puppy ran away the night of our Halloween party. Long story short, my husband and I, along with two friends, ended up running through the woods and through neighbors yards for over an hour dressed as a troll doll, Garth from Wayne’s World, and Helga & Arnold from Hey Arnold. Thankfully we found her safe and sound, but not without some funny looks from our neighbors!

Share me! Can’t think of a harrowing sharing story at the moment but that doesn’t mean I’m a great sharer. I just watched The Modern Family episode where the only child had issues sharing and that was certainly humorous!

share me, YHL! I took a weekend trip with my mother-in-law and 2 of my sisters-in-law the spring before wet go married. We had a great time exploring and sharing a bottle of wine, an awesome meal, and then they shared some of their best tips for marriage (and lots of fun family secrets). We had a blast.

Growing up I had three sisters and one bathroom. We didn’t have one ounce of privacy nor did we give any privacy to my poor Mom. Our nightly pow wows were in the bathroom while my Mom took a bath. We would all cram in there to talk about our day!! :)

I am not so good at sharing, but I think I’m pretty good at giving. My husband and I are packing up and moving to our first home (yay) and I just discovered Freecycle and I have been giving things away all week. The one that made me really happy was when I gave my old Playstation 2 and a bunch of games to two little boys. I smiled all day. :)

Locking your three-year old brother in his second-floor bedroom only works if he isn’t willing to throw all his pillow out the window onto the ground and then follow them out.

My sister and I shared a room for 13 years and even shared a double bed for a few years just so that we could get rid of our bunkbeds. Double beds are small, and I remember making my sis mad when I would put my cold feet on her or hog more than my share of the bed. Guess that’s why our Grandpa called her the sweet tator and me the agitator….I am so much better about sharing now!

Sharing a room with my first college roommate! What a nightmare. One of the worse things… If I didn’t come home by midnight she’s lock the door all up and wouldn’t open it for me so I’d have to sleep over a friends. What a long year…

I’m an only child so sharing has never been high on my priority list. :) Years of daycare and four years of college roommates did ensure I learned the concept though!

I share my special dark chocolate bars with my hubby. But he usually eats more than I do so I’ve been thinking about buying them and keeping them in my car so he’ll never know I have them. :)

My brother Glenn and I had to share a room when we were younger. He used to climb out of his crib every night, work his way across the bedroom, climb up into my bed, and curl up in a ball (like a dog) and sleep there the rest of the night.

My mom had this barnwood antique mirror sitting in a guest room on the floor, broken. It would have looked perfect above the fireplace in my first home. I asked her a couple times about it, offering to fix it and borrow it while she wasnt using it but she would NOT part with it. A few years later, I noticed it had disappeared and when I asked her about it, she claimed not to know. Very strange – and I sure hope I am a better sharer and can part with my things.

& my favorite sharing story (at least, the only one that comes to mind) was when I was living in Ghana and every time my friend and I met anyone who was eating (even if we’d never seen them before), they’d say over and over again, “You are invited!” until we shared their food with them.

SHARE ME! Just two weeks ago my 20 month old son woke up with his finger wrapped so tight in the ribbon on his teddy bear that it was purple-black! we’ve ended up at Urgent Care, the ER, three docs appointments… it is looking like he will have a full recovery, but for a while there, we thought he might lose part of his finger. Harrowing indeed! And hopefully a warning to not let your baby sleep with anything with ribbons. We are so trained to look for choking hazards, but I never considered this!

One of my favorites was when I shared a package of starburst with my 4 year-old niece. There is nothing like a kids face when they taste something they like for the first time. You know that look of skepticism, followed by distaste follow by that slow-growing grin? Love it.
