Fab Freebie: Say Grace

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Since our eyes are constantly peeled for fun nursery art lately, we’re psyched to bring you this week’s giveaway from Grace Hester Designs. And even if you’re not expecting a little one, you might just spot the perfect piece to commemorate your wedding, your brood, or even your love of foreign languages amongst Grace’s type and silhouette-based art.

Grace Hester Art

We love the idea of our little beanette learning some Spanish numbers or French animal names through these punchy designs (or even picking up a Chinese character or two). And it’s because of Grace’s fun range of prints that we couldn’t bear to narrow down this week’s prize to a specific group of designs – so TWO of you are gonna score a $50 credit toward anything in Grace’s etsy shop.

Grace Hester Languages

Here are this week’s entry details:

  • PRIZE: A $50 credit towards any item from Grace Hester Designs
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GRACE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …share with us your favorite word or saying from another language. Do you love the way a certain Italian word rolls off your tongue? Or maybe you have a go-to phrase that you learned when traveling abroad? If nothing else, is there an English word that sounds especially funny to you in Pig Latin?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, February 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: All over the globe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

    Grace Me!

I took four years of French in high school and my brother & his wife are fluent. However, with all of those french words I randomly know. “Je t’aime” is still my favorite!

I speak some Italian and my favorite words are “forbici” (pronounced for-bee-chee and means scissors) and “carciofi” (pronounced car-cho-fee and means artichokes). I don’t know why they are my favorite, but they are so fun to say.

I think anything in another language is beautiful, even anything in ENGLISH with another dialect or accent. I always say I wish I could send my husband to Ireland or England for a couple of years so he could adopt an accent… so sexy.

    Grace Me.

I studied french in college and would have to say that any of my favorite words or phrases would have to do with food. There is nothing better than strolling the french markets daily for that next meal. Fromage blanc is one of my faves (creamiest and yummiest yogurt ever).

PS….we have been pursuing adoption for over 2 years and were just matched with the sweetest little blessing from China. I would love to get my hands on the art with Chinese characters!

GRACE ME! As a musician, I’d have to say that some of my favorite words are “mit aufgerichtetem Schallbecher,” which in a Mahler symphony would mean that you would raise your bell up (as a clarinet player, this is never done in orchestra). Also I just love hearing the names of Italian composer names – both because they are associated with beautiful operas and because the names are just fun. Puccini! Verdi! Donizetti!

Grace me! My favourite phrase at the moment is “Keresyk, bethoh dur” – it’s Cornish and means “Beloved, be bold”. My fiancee is from Cornwall and we just picked up our wedding rings from the jewellers with the phrase engraved inside. As a proud Cornishman he hates it when I say this, but I really love how much Cornish sounds like Elvish from Lord of the Rings!!

I lived in Hong Kong for a while as a kid and learned a ton of, er, questionable foreign slang at the international school. One of the less offensive and funnier (to me) is “Po kai” which basically means “fall down in the street” in Cantonese and is actually an insult, but for me it has become more literal. I have seven month old twins that are constantly po kai-ing (not in the street though) and I am really clumsy and po kai all the time. Love the po kai.

Well, my husband and I have a secret language that I made up when I was 11. I have shared it with only two other people in my life, one being my best friend at that time, and the second being my husband. We used it in the beginning while we were dating, because we worked together and did not want people to know yet. so we would speak to each other in this other language, and no one would know what we were saying. Now, we use it to talk about adult things when we are with our children, lol. Hopefully that won’t figure it out! All it is is adding an IB before every vowel. like ” Ibi libove yibou”.
