Fab Freebie: Say Grace

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Since our eyes are constantly peeled for fun nursery art lately, we’re psyched to bring you this week’s giveaway from Grace Hester Designs. And even if you’re not expecting a little one, you might just spot the perfect piece to commemorate your wedding, your brood, or even your love of foreign languages amongst Grace’s type and silhouette-based art.

Grace Hester Art

We love the idea of our little beanette learning some Spanish numbers or French animal names through these punchy designs (or even picking up a Chinese character or two). And it’s because of Grace’s fun range of prints that we couldn’t bear to narrow down this week’s prize to a specific group of designs – so TWO of you are gonna score a $50 credit toward anything in Grace’s etsy shop.

Grace Hester Languages

Here are this week’s entry details:

  • PRIZE: A $50 credit towards any item from Grace Hester Designs
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GRACE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …share with us your favorite word or saying from another language. Do you love the way a certain Italian word rolls off your tongue? Or maybe you have a go-to phrase that you learned when traveling abroad? If nothing else, is there an English word that sounds especially funny to you in Pig Latin?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, February 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: All over the globe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Burbuja! It means bubble in Spanish and I’ve always loved the way it rolls off my tongue.

For some unknown reason, our dog doesn’t respond to the usual “stop” “quiet” commands. But if you shout “SILENCIO” she sits right down and instantly becomes cute again. Apparently she was Spanish in a past life!!

I was told once in my intro French class that a common term of endearment is “Mon petit choux” translated as “My little cabbage”. I’ve always loved it, even if it turns out to be not so very commonly true!

I was a Russian major at UVA, and I was fortunate to get into a few semesters of Serbo-Croatian. The phrase that stuck? “Nema problema!” Meaning, of course, “no problem!”
My lingo-phobe hubby has even picked this one up for himself!

    GRACE ME! :)

“Que Sera, Sera” (Whatever Will Be, Will Be) When I was little, I remember my mother (and grandmother) singing this song to me. And now that I’m a mama to our sweet little Maggie, I find myself singing it to her as well. I love the heritage that a simple, happy tune weaves thru our familial generations & love the meaning. Have you heard that song of old? ;) It goes… “When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother ‘what will I be?’ – will I be pretty, will I be rich, here’s what she said to me… que sera, sera….whatever will be will be, the future’s not ours to see, que sera-sera…”

Well in my neck of the woods, in Central California, Spanish is almost the primary language…and I love to listen to it spoken fluently (I am not at all fluent). I especially love to hear “te amo”…even if it’s not directed at me.

My favorite: “Puoi ripetere?” which translates “Can you repeat?” in Italian. It’s got a really fun rhythym when pronounced correctly, but it also reminds me of when I was fumbling my way through Italian while living in Rome!

I speak three languages, Cantonese, Malay and English but my favourite proverb/saying has got to be in Cantonese – “Tai ngan, tow chuck” translated it means, “Big eyes, little stomach.” We say it to little children not to take too much food onto their plates and then throwing it away afterwards.

When I was being annoying, my mom would say, “Me estas poniendo un gorro.” Literally it means you’re putiing a hat on my head. Not sure exactly why it signals annoyance, but moms are funny like that.
