Fab Freebie: Say Grace

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

Since our eyes are constantly peeled for fun nursery art lately, we’re psyched to bring you this week’s giveaway from Grace Hester Designs. And even if you’re not expecting a little one, you might just spot the perfect piece to commemorate your wedding, your brood, or even your love of foreign languages amongst Grace’s type and silhouette-based art.

Grace Hester Art

We love the idea of our little beanette learning some Spanish numbers or French animal names through these punchy designs (or even picking up a Chinese character or two). And it’s because of Grace’s fun range of prints that we couldn’t bear to narrow down this week’s prize to a specific group of designs – so TWO of you are gonna score a $50 credit toward anything in Grace’s etsy shop.

Grace Hester Languages

Here are this week’s entry details:

  • PRIZE: A $50 credit towards any item from Grace Hester Designs
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GRACE ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …share with us your favorite word or saying from another language. Do you love the way a certain Italian word rolls off your tongue? Or maybe you have a go-to phrase that you learned when traveling abroad? If nothing else, is there an English word that sounds especially funny to you in Pig Latin?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, February 17th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: All over the globe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

“Pamplemousse” is a pretty solid french word (grapefruit). And “pomplamoose” is a solid musical duo! Check ’em out on youtube.

My favorite comes from The Little Mermaid when the chef finds the crab hiding and exclaims, “Zut Alors, I have missed one!” I think it means shoot, or darn, but it cracks me up every time.

my favorite korean word is kko-jib-uh, which means pinch (like with fingers). it’s also the only korean word my non-korean boyfriend knows. it’s become a bit of an inside joke for us, yelled out at random, inappropriate places and times.

While it’s not in another language, I get the biggest kick out of how everyone knows how to sell you stuff, even if you can’t speak their language. I remember wandering over small town China, and, even there, shopkeepers and people on the street will say “first deal of the day” and “hey pretty lady,” followed by my “how much” and their “good deal for you.” It’s wonderful to fill a home with these little objects from far-away lands, and without the extra cost of an interpreter!

I took French for about 8 years throughout high school and college. I love the language. My favorite words to say are “les haricots vertes” and “un croque monsieur.” Green beans and grilled cheese…which just so happen to be two of my favorite foods!

Papillon. Butterfly in French. I like how it sounds and the idea that it doesnt represent the image of a butterfly in my head. I think of it, as an enigmatic word.
I was even considering naming our baby like that. But my husband thought I was saying Pappy John.

I am learning Korean (in an attempt to prepare for a semi-sabbatical I’m going to take in Seoul, Busan, etc, in 18 months) and my favorite words are ?????, which means “hello, how are you?” and also “I am fine, how are you?” depending on the tone used to say it. BTW, ????? is pronounced “ahn-young-ha-say-yo” :)

My favorite word is “pansa” — it means belly in Spanish. I remember being 12 years old and teaching my youngest brother (who was 2) the different words for body parts, and he would always get really silly when we came to “pansaaaaa” (as he would say it), because he knew he would get tickled right afterwards!

My favorite French word is probably pamplemousse! It means grapefruit. I didn’t remember that word from my years in high school French, but rather learned it when my grapefruit loving husband and I traveled with my best friend and her hubby to Europe a couple summers ago. My husband discovered his love for grapefruit ice cream!

My favorite French word is poilue – it means hairy. My husband and I were studying several languages to prepare for a trip to Europe when we found out we were expecting (due in July) – and people joke that our baby will be very hairy, as we both have nice thick hair. A little random, but there you have it!
