Fab Freebie: Portrait Of A Fido

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

And the lucky random pet parent who’s about to get a cheery pet portrait is… Kirstin (who’s excited to get a portrait of Lola, her “adorable Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix”). Congrats Kirstin AND Lola! UPDATE: Kirstin sent us a photo of Lola. Isn’t she a heartbreaker?

Lesli Devito Giveaway Winner Lola

Somebody turned six last week around here. And his name rhymes with Schmurger (video evidence to come on Young House Life – we just have to upload it). Anyway, in honor of that exciting canine milestone, we’re hosting an exciting canine giveaway, courtesy of our good friend (and fellow Virginian) Lesli Devito. She’s got an incredible knack for turning a photo of your pet into a brightly colored, cheerful piece of artwork that’ll wake up any wall. So start digging out that perfect snapshot of your pup (or kitty or whatever else) and hunting for the perfect spot for that 20 x 20″ custom painting that just may be coming your way!

  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT MY PET!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what pet you’d want painted. And while you’re at it, what’s one thing that makes your pet especially lovable, weird, loyal, or just generally fun to have around?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States & Canada
  • DISCOUNT: 15% off any order when you mention YHL with your order (through October 15th)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lesli Devito.

PAINT MY PET! I would probably have our dog Sheila painted. She’s part Australian Cattle Dog and part Corgi–so we’re all about showcasing her little legs, big ears, and even bigger personality! She is the most expressive dog I have ever met!

PAINT MY PET! We have two pups but ever since I bought the hubs a portrait of his pet, I’ve been wanting one of mine. Sophie the shih tzu puts up with our yellow lab, loves to be a lap dog, and will always be our first baby :)

My precious dog Maebe is hysterical. I can’t get her to sit still long enough for a great photo (she’s always halfway blurry!) so maybe a portrait would be better!

Paint my pet!!! I have a small dog that looks just like a tiny deer. He is some kind of adorable mutt that we named Guierrmo. We also have a large tortoise. I swear the dog thinks he is a tortoise because whenever we cut branches off our tree to feed our tortoise, Guierrmo goes and lays in the grass next to her and chews on the branch also!

PAINT MY PET! My Pudgey Bear was the best dog ever. He saw me through college, marriage, divorce, and a major move for 13 years. No matter what anyone else thought, I could always count on him not to judge me and meet me by the door with a kiss and a tail wag. I miss him dearly and a portrait would be a wonderful reminder.

PAINT MY PET!!! I hope more than anything I win this contest(although I know it is a random draw). My husband and I have been married for 14 years. The day we got word we were getting our first house we adopted a kitten. Brewster was our joy! He was our only “child” for many years. Brewster was beautiful on the outside and the inside. He was a 20 pound love bug. His bright orange color and long soft fur made him look larger than life and he captivated people. At night he slept in my arms and shared my pillow. If we were ever sick he would sit by our side until we were well. Although he wasn’t thrilled when we had our son, he was kind and loving toward him as well.
We lost Brewster this last month a few days short of our anniversary. He was actually attacked by a wild coyote. It was a devastating loss for both my husband and myself. We both cried for days and still find the house bit lonely without our kitty. I remember sitting with him on the couch petting him on our last night together. I thanked God for giving me such a wonderful pet.
I have already planned to give my husband a portrait of the cat for this Christmas. This portrait would mean so much to our family. We could never afford the price of $500. It can never replace the empty spot in our hearts, but we would gaze upon the picture and see our loved one from the last 14 years.

We adopted Gretchen 5 years ago, and she’s been the most wonderful pet ever, such a great addition to our family. The funny thing is, she’s a Doberman, but she’s really a cat inside a Doberman body. She has a cat’s *unlimited* capacity for sleep, lounging, self-cleaning, etc. We love her, and would love to have her captured on canvas!

PAINT MY PET … Obi Wan. He’s a 14 year old Corgi who’s really slowing down. But even in his prime, he was a “special” dog. He doesn’t hear so well, he’s almost completely blind, but he still gets excited every day when my husband comes home from work and cuddles up on our feet while we watch TV. We love him to bits!

PAINT MY PET! Ol Eddison von Monster (aka E-Murder, aka Monitor, aka Deedasun) is a 90 pound vegetarian Doberman who gets his kicks off eating baby carrots and brussel sprouts, and spooning with our one year old son. Eddie’s breeder had high hopes that he would be a show dog, but Ed failed puppy training because he couldn’t stop looking at himself in the mirrored room… because he’s just too pretty.

PAINT MY PET! My husband and I rescued a greyhound for our 1 year anniversary and he has turned out to be the perfect pet for us. Greyhounds are kind of like big cats, in a lot of ways so you get the best of both species: the affection and companionship of a dog, but the cleanliness (and lack of chewing, drooling, barking) of a cat.

I’d want our 3 yo, lovable rescue pup painted. He’s a red lab/something mix named Thomas Jefferson and he keeps his brains in his butt. His tail tells you exactly what he’s feeling. He also has a majestical dolphin leap he does at the back door when he wants in. :)
