Fab Freebie: Portrait Of A Fido

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

And the lucky random pet parent who’s about to get a cheery pet portrait is… Kirstin (who’s excited to get a portrait of Lola, her “adorable Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix”). Congrats Kirstin AND Lola! UPDATE: Kirstin sent us a photo of Lola. Isn’t she a heartbreaker?

Lesli Devito Giveaway Winner Lola

Somebody turned six last week around here. And his name rhymes with Schmurger (video evidence to come on Young House Life – we just have to upload it). Anyway, in honor of that exciting canine milestone, we’re hosting an exciting canine giveaway, courtesy of our good friend (and fellow Virginian) Lesli Devito. She’s got an incredible knack for turning a photo of your pet into a brightly colored, cheerful piece of artwork that’ll wake up any wall. So start digging out that perfect snapshot of your pup (or kitty or whatever else) and hunting for the perfect spot for that 20 x 20″ custom painting that just may be coming your way!

  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT MY PET!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what pet you’d want painted. And while you’re at it, what’s one thing that makes your pet especially lovable, weird, loyal, or just generally fun to have around?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States & Canada
  • DISCOUNT: 15% off any order when you mention YHL with your order (through October 15th)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lesli Devito.

Paint my pet! I would get our pet Oliver painted, he’s a black cat that we found in a parking lot and adopted. What makes him weird is that he loves drinking out of the faucet in the bathroom, it’s something about the running water! So he’ll stand in the sink and drink, now it’s the only way he wants his water. (Spoiled, much?)

We have a Jack Russell Terrier name Ozzie. He is the sweetest, most hyper, lovable dog we’ve ever had! We don’t have kids yet, but we certainly consider him our child. Ozzie likes to watch any and every animal planet show ever made. He is the most ADHD dog, but will stare for hours on end at any animals on there, He is especially prone to birds or large mammals (bears, moose, etc). It’s hysterical to watch.

I would love to have a painting of our dog Milou. She is a true mutt we rescued 3 years ago from a high-kill county shelter. There are so many amazing things about her, but my favorite has to be her exuberant greeting ritual for me. She burrows her head into my lap until she flips herself over into a ball, all the while wagging her tail in a circle like a propeller. You can’t beat love like that.

PAINT MY PET! We adopted a kitten named Tater Tot recently, and he’s a hilarious, adorable addition to our family. If there’s a bug in the house, he chases it around (yes, flying bugs) leaping from the highest pieces of furniture until he gets it. He then brings it to us and purrs while we congratulate him on his victory. :)

I’d want my black pug, Frankie, to have her portrait done because she is very idiosyncratic. She doesn’t have the typical cobby body type, she’s more like a tiny racehorse, and she’s got a couple of pretty googly eyes that make her appearance of the whimsical side.

    Hope I win, because Frankie’s super-fun.

PAINT MY PET! Lucy is a 5 (maybe 6) year old 60 pound golden retriever who my husband and I rescued almost three years ago from the Memphis Golden Retriever Rescue Group (MAGRR). In October 2011, Lucy (on accident) ate a portion of a rope that had disintegrated from an above ground swimming pool and her body began to shut down. After a very long surgery, a twelve inch incision, and 6 long brutal days in the doggie hospital, Lucy survived. Not until we almost lost her did we realize just how valable she is to our precious family. She is the most loyal, loving, and happy dog. She stays by our side all the time and lives to chase squirrels. I have a million cell phone pictures of her, but not one painted image. I would love to see her golden smile in a lovely piece of artwork by Leslie. PS: she has human relatives in Richmond and we all love to read your blog!
