Fab Freebie: Portrait Of A Fido

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

And the lucky random pet parent who’s about to get a cheery pet portrait is… Kirstin (who’s excited to get a portrait of Lola, her “adorable Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix”). Congrats Kirstin AND Lola! UPDATE: Kirstin sent us a photo of Lola. Isn’t she a heartbreaker?

Lesli Devito Giveaway Winner Lola

Somebody turned six last week around here. And his name rhymes with Schmurger (video evidence to come on Young House Life – we just have to upload it). Anyway, in honor of that exciting canine milestone, we’re hosting an exciting canine giveaway, courtesy of our good friend (and fellow Virginian) Lesli Devito. She’s got an incredible knack for turning a photo of your pet into a brightly colored, cheerful piece of artwork that’ll wake up any wall. So start digging out that perfect snapshot of your pup (or kitty or whatever else) and hunting for the perfect spot for that 20 x 20″ custom painting that just may be coming your way!

Lesli Devito Paintings Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A custom pet painting from Leslie Devito Paintings up to 20″ x 20″ in size (a $500 value)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT MY PET!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what pet you’d want painted. And while you’re at it, what’s one thing that makes your pet especially lovable, weird, loyal, or just generally fun to have around?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States & Canada
  • DISCOUNT: 15% off any order when you mention YHL with your order (through October 15th)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lesli Devito.

PAINT MY PET! If possible, I would want a painting of my two female cats. They are so sweet. We rescued them both from shelters. I never thought I was a cat person (I always grew up with dogs), but for some reason, this little one year old calico named Brooke caught my eye at Petco. Now she has a “sister” named Phoebe, who is a tiny half-siamese gray tabby cat. Brooke is lovable because she likes to lick your face like a dog. It kinda hurts with her barbed tongue, but it’s still cute! Phoebe is lovable because she curls up in my lap every night before bed. It’s her little routine!

I would love to have my Beagle/Jack Russell mix, “Howie”, painted. He is the best dog ever because he tries so hard to be good. (He is not always successful, but he gets points for trying!) Also, because he is scary-genius smart.

I have two West Highland Terriers that I adore because of their completely unique, yet totally different personalities. Dezzy is your more reserved terrier who we often refer too as emo, while Ollie is our fearless terrier who doesn’t let anything get him down. Both are lovers through and through.

Paint my pet! Calamity the Schnoodle is a rescued schnauzer poodle mix, who came by her name honest – by surviving being nursed through parvovirus at home with us. Thankfully the name is not predictive. Now, at six years old, she is the snugliest permanent-puppy around… with one notable weakness. Every few weeks she becomes convinced that our lemon tree is a tennis ball tree, and will sit beneath it for hours growling and yapping and jumping, hoping that another tennis ball will fall. Eventually one does, and she is bitterly disappointed all over again when she discovers it is a lemon. Then the memory fades, and my perpetual-puppy sits again in hope beneath the tree. Please paint Calamity and the tennis ball tree of her dreams.

PAINT MY PET! I’d have our Boxer, Tucker (aka “The Pookins”) painted. He has such a personality and brings us joy everyday. Last night, playing with his rawhide, he ran upstairs, ran downstairs, threw it in the air, and lunged after it like it was getting away from him, for at least 20-30 minutes. So funny!

Oscar is my five month old puppy, he was a rescue and I had no idea what I was doing but had to bring him home. He is quite adorable (what puppy isn’t?!) but his personality is what everyone loves. I live downtown so we walk around town quite a bit and I have on more than one occasion been approached and asked if this was Oscar because a roommate, friend, family member came home and talked about him. It cracks me up each time it happens.

PAINT MY PET! I would have our one and only pet painted – out lovable mantle great dane names Heidi. She’s the antithesis of what an almost 4 year old great dane should be – calm, relaxed, chill, easy going.

She’s as hyper as a terrier, and still loves to play. She loves to destoy bones and stand with her front paws on your shoulders to “hug”, and we playfully call her chunkerbottoms. So far it hasn’t given her a complex :) We just love her to pieces and can’t imagine our little family without her.
