Fab Freebie: Portrait Of A Fido

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

And the lucky random pet parent who’s about to get a cheery pet portrait is… Kirstin (who’s excited to get a portrait of Lola, her “adorable Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix”). Congrats Kirstin AND Lola! UPDATE: Kirstin sent us a photo of Lola. Isn’t she a heartbreaker?

Lesli Devito Giveaway Winner Lola

Somebody turned six last week around here. And his name rhymes with Schmurger (video evidence to come on Young House Life – we just have to upload it). Anyway, in honor of that exciting canine milestone, we’re hosting an exciting canine giveaway, courtesy of our good friend (and fellow Virginian) Lesli Devito. She’s got an incredible knack for turning a photo of your pet into a brightly colored, cheerful piece of artwork that’ll wake up any wall. So start digging out that perfect snapshot of your pup (or kitty or whatever else) and hunting for the perfect spot for that 20 x 20″ custom painting that just may be coming your way!

  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT MY PET!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what pet you’d want painted. And while you’re at it, what’s one thing that makes your pet especially lovable, weird, loyal, or just generally fun to have around?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States & Canada
  • DISCOUNT: 15% off any order when you mention YHL with your order (through October 15th)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lesli Devito.

PAINT MY PET! With apologies to my (very handsome) cat… I’d have to go with my horse. For one thing, he’s a lot nicer to me than my cat (who tends to bite), and for another, he looks absolutely gorgeous running around the pasture or arena, and you’d never guess that he was 27.

If I had to choose a pet to get painted, I think it would be my pup, Millie. She’s the newest addition to our family.
I think the cutest thing about her, for me, is when she wakes up in the morning and gives kisses. Love it.

    PAINT MY PET!
I’d want a dual portrait – one of my 7-month-old pup Ruby and my old lady Inga (almost 10 years old). They are as different as night and day, but both awesome for more reasons than I can list. Inga should be coasting into her “easy” years as the matron of the house, but we decided to bring in a bratty little sister to make her remaining time on earth not so relaxing. However, they love each other dearly and I’d love to capture that.

Daisy is my 6 month old Jack Russell Terrier. We absolutely love having her as an addition to our family. She has a personality all her own that can be summed up as stubborn. She loves her Mama & will follow me around constantly. But, her Daddy hung the moon in her eyes. All she wants to do is lay on his chest when he’s around. & you know that melts this dog-mom’s heart! :)

Paint my pet! I’d love to have my beloved mini dachshund painted. Shatzie was my comfort for 13 years growing up, but my parents had to put her down while I was away on my honeymoon. Missing the chance to say goodbye has made grieving rather difficult. I expect her to jump into my lap whenever I sit down on my parent’s couch. Sometimes, I even expect her to rush underfoot in my own kitchen when a scrap hits the floor. I miss her so much. It would be great to have something like this to remember her by.

Paint My Pet! It would have to be my Tucker dog who I adopted 8 years ago. He was the biggest pain as a young dog, he got out of locked crates, tore up carpet (more than once) and was generally naughty! But I wouldn’t have my family if it wasn’t for him, I met my husband because of him. And once our daughter was born he calmed down and became the protector of all babies, he watches them wherever they go and howls along with them if they cry.

PAINT MY PET! I would love to have my dog, Noah, painted in all his glory. He is part golden retriever and part lab, and is a rescue dog. He is fantstic pet — a gentle giant. His only fault is the inability to refrain from eating things he shouldn’t. Just a few examples: a sombrero (that’s right, a whole sombrero), 2 dried starfish, and 12 boxes of Thin Mint GS cookies (that were for other people). Lucky for him — and me — he has an iron stomach.

    “Paint My Pet”.

Well, we rescued Lexi back in 2008. She is a beautiful brindle boxer that needed a lot of love. She was ten months old, and had been kept in a crate her entire life. She did not know how to be social, or how to play with toys. It is our understanding that her first owner was very abusive to her. It had to be a male with a cap on because it took almost a month before she would let my husband pet her. She is now five years old, still scared of strangers, but she warms up quickly. We cannot imagine our lives without her.

I’d have my adorable doggy Optimus Prime painted. He is officially a mutt, though he looks just like a rottweiler. His most hilarious/annoying quirk is his money-eating habit. He will eat any paper money we leave laying around, and even noses around my purse looking for stray cash that hasn’t made it to my wallet. He doesn’t eat other paper very much, just money. It’s getting…expensive.
