Fab Freebie: Portrait Of A Fido

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

And the lucky random pet parent who’s about to get a cheery pet portrait is… Kirstin (who’s excited to get a portrait of Lola, her “adorable Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix”). Congrats Kirstin AND Lola! UPDATE: Kirstin sent us a photo of Lola. Isn’t she a heartbreaker?

Lesli Devito Giveaway Winner Lola

Somebody turned six last week around here. And his name rhymes with Schmurger (video evidence to come on Young House Life – we just have to upload it). Anyway, in honor of that exciting canine milestone, we’re hosting an exciting canine giveaway, courtesy of our good friend (and fellow Virginian) Lesli Devito. She’s got an incredible knack for turning a photo of your pet into a brightly colored, cheerful piece of artwork that’ll wake up any wall. So start digging out that perfect snapshot of your pup (or kitty or whatever else) and hunting for the perfect spot for that 20 x 20″ custom painting that just may be coming your way!

  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT MY PET!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what pet you’d want painted. And while you’re at it, what’s one thing that makes your pet especially lovable, weird, loyal, or just generally fun to have around?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States & Canada
  • DISCOUNT: 15% off any order when you mention YHL with your order (through October 15th)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lesli Devito.

PAINT MY PET! I would get a portrait of my wolf-dog Buddy. He was a really cool dog to have, & recently passed away, so it would be a perfect memorial of him. I remember when he was about a year old, we went on a camping trip with him and while hiking, somehow he hurt his paw. We stopped to look at it, but nothing seemed wrong with it, so we told him he was fine. Apparently that was all he needed, and off he ran – without the limp or anything. Just like a kid!

    “PAINT MY PET!”

My parrot Crumbly. Birds bond to one or two people and he is super bonded to me. I can lay on the couch with him on my chest and he will “preen” me. He’ll take a curl and run his beek down it, get another section and run his beek down it. He thinks he is giving me a bird bath. Too sweet.

PAINT MY PET! I have a black and tan Pomeranian that was a puppy mill mom from Kentucky. She arrived losing big clumps of hair and every time I’d pull them out there’d be flea debris with them. They had just spayed her and pulled 10 teeth. Now, a year later she is so beautiful. She should be a cover dog for Acana brand food because she is thriving on a good grain-free diet now. She is always smiling–kind of like a dolphin :)

I would love a picture of my Lab mix, Mason, who has passes away but whose memories always bring a smile to my face. She loved chewing gum and would steal a piece every chance she got. If I could have only taught her how to blow a bubble! LOL

PAINT MY PET! I have a cat and a dog that I love dearly. My cat (Sushi) sleeps curled up with his head on my shoulder every night. My dog (Mojo) is a pomeranian and makes the BEST faces – you can always tell what he’s thinking. I’d have a hard time picking just one of them for a portrait, so I’d probably just ask my husband or flip a coin :)

    PAINT MY PET!!

We have a mutt named Shorty who we believed was a jack russell/basset hound/beagle mix for six years until we had his DNA tested (yes, we are those people!) and found out that he is a boxer/cocker spaniel mix. Talk about an identity crisis! He loves to crawl all the way under the sheets at night to sleep and will stay there even when gasping for air and panting until the sheets get wet – yes, disgusting and the reason why he can no longer sleep with us! We would love a little Shorty portrait to hang in our new home!!

PAINT MY PET! My family is obsessed with our Jack Russel, Sookie. She is a rescue from a shelter, and we have treated her like a queen since we got her seven years ago. I’ve made my brother a silhouette of her beautiful face, but that was black and white. One of these cool colored one would be extra special!

PAINT MY PET! Our dog Misha is a total character – he came to us a shy rescue dog from the country who was afraid of every little thing, and in the year we’ve had him he’s morphed into a goofy fluffball who can’t understand why the cats/random people on the street don’t fall all over themselves trying to be his friend. We can’t imagine life without him, and we’d love to have him painted!
