Fab Freebie: Portrait Of A Fido

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

And the lucky random pet parent who’s about to get a cheery pet portrait is… Kirstin (who’s excited to get a portrait of Lola, her “adorable Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix”). Congrats Kirstin AND Lola! UPDATE: Kirstin sent us a photo of Lola. Isn’t she a heartbreaker?

Lesli Devito Giveaway Winner Lola

Somebody turned six last week around here. And his name rhymes with Schmurger (video evidence to come on Young House Life – we just have to upload it). Anyway, in honor of that exciting canine milestone, we’re hosting an exciting canine giveaway, courtesy of our good friend (and fellow Virginian) Lesli Devito. She’s got an incredible knack for turning a photo of your pet into a brightly colored, cheerful piece of artwork that’ll wake up any wall. So start digging out that perfect snapshot of your pup (or kitty or whatever else) and hunting for the perfect spot for that 20 x 20″ custom painting that just may be coming your way!

  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT MY PET!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … what pet you’d want painted. And while you’re at it, what’s one thing that makes your pet especially lovable, weird, loyal, or just generally fun to have around?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States & Canada
  • DISCOUNT: 15% off any order when you mention YHL with your order (through October 15th)

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lesli Devito.

Paint My Pet! I’d have Leslie paint my parent’s beloved Scotch Collie, Duffel, who died last New Year’s Eve suddenly of a particularly horrible, undiagnosed cancer.

Well, actually, paint my fiancé’s pet (I have … ahem … several cats and two dogs, so there’s no way I could choose!). Ed’s dog Zulan, a German Shepherd/Husky mix, has been with him through thick and thin for twelve years — long before we met. He’s a rescue, and I think he’s also rescued Ed from some tough times by just being the terrific, loyal, loving companion that he is.

PAINT MY PET!!!!! I would want my 2 year old pit bull, Chloe painted. We bought her just six weeks old. She was the only female in her litter, the rest brindle males. When we brought her home we noticed she had a small white heart on the back of her neck. The most lovable pup ever, so it fit her. When she was a year and a half she was abused by our cousin while we went on vacation. He shattered her leg and caused internal bruising. After some serious surgery and 6 months of being stuck in a cage, not allowed to play or run due to the brace/screws… She is still the most lovable dog.

We have an English Setter named Ella and we’d love to have her painted. On purpose, that is. Leggy with flowing feather on her legs, tail and ears, she manages to be both elegant and doofy all at the same time, kind of like the Barbie of the dog world. Her tail never stops wagging, unless something is really wrong or she’s asleep. And we love at least as much as you love Burger (maybe more, if you go by weight – she’s 60 lbs!)
PS – Did you know that it was Clifford the Big Red Dog’s birthday last week? He turned 50!

My pup Santana is also 6 years old — a beagle, chihuahua mix who is HILARIOUS. She has the most expressive dog-face I’ve ever seen and my favorite love-able thing about her is that she goes NUTS for burrowing under afghans (only afghans, not any other type of blanket). She will be completely ignoring me for the entire day, but as soon as I have an afghan on my lap, she’s on the couch beside me glaring until I lift the afghan up and let her under.

PAINT MY PET! My lab-hound-great dane mix, Abraham Lincoln, is the funniest, sweetest, most talkative dog in the world. He’s famous for being such a gentle giant, to the point where families (and not just mine) come over to visit him around the holidays. I’ve had him for 7 years and my husband for 6, so everyone knows who’s king in our house. I’ve been begging for a painting of Abraham so this would be perfect.

We have photos of her hanging now, but a painting would be icing on the cake! And what makes her especially great to have around? Our 8-month old son and her are becoming best friends, which is so cute to watch. He giggles almost every time she jumps, chases a ball, scratches herself, …

I would love to have one of these cute paintings of my Chihuahua Roxy. She’s actually my first pet ever and my now husband and I adopted her 6 years ago. She absolutely loves everyone and is so entertaining but at the same time very relaxed (she’s 11). She’s so chill in fact, that if we put something on her head (a soft toy, a sock, etc…. I know we’re goofy but it’s funny), she just sits there like it’s no big deal. I’m sure it comes through but she’s my sunshine. :)
