Fab Freebie: Portrait Of A Fido

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

And the lucky random pet parent who’s about to get a cheery pet portrait is… Kirstin (who’s excited to get a portrait of Lola, her “adorable Boston Terrier/English Bulldog mix”). Congrats Kirstin AND Lola! UPDATE: Kirstin sent us a photo of Lola. Isn’t she a heartbreaker?

Lesli Devito Giveaway Winner Lola

Somebody turned six last week around here. And his name rhymes with Schmurger (video evidence to come on Young House Life – we just have to upload it). Anyway, in honor of that exciting canine milestone, we’re hosting an exciting canine giveaway, courtesy of our good friend (and fellow Virginian) Lesli Devito. She’s got an incredible knack for turning a photo of your pet into a brightly colored, cheerful piece of artwork that’ll wake up any wall. So start digging out that perfect snapshot of your pup (or kitty or whatever else) and hunting for the perfect spot for that 20 x 20″ custom painting that just may be coming your way!

  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One

I would use this for my dog Luna, a Great Dane – German Shepard mix. She just turned one and has added so much fun to our family. She loves to sit on the couch (like a human with her front feet on the ground) and watch soccer. She will watch an entire game this way and it is one of the only times she is calm. It’s too funny!

PAINT MY PET! I would want a painting of my dog, a maltese/shi tzu mix. There are many things that make him lovable and fun, but the weirdest thing about him is that he talks! He kind of talk-barks at me when I come home at the end of the day and I swear it sounds like he’s saying “Where were you??”

We only have a cat at the moment but are looking for a dog to adopt as well. A painting of our cat would be great, though. He is the most tolerant, gentle pet I have ever encountered. He lays on his back for belly rubs, lets my girls carry him around all over the place (and he’s huge!) and doesn’t mind at all when they dress him up in bibs, party hats and capes. :)

PAINT MY PET!! I’d love to have my little pomeranian Lily painted. We got her 6 years ago this month. The moment we met her, I knew she was coming home with us, even though we were supposed to only be “looking”. That little ball of fur let me pick her up, and she snuggled her way under my chin and layed down. She weighed 2.5 lbs at the time, and threw up all over my lap on the way home. We love her so much, and she’s still as cuddly today as she was the day we met her.

I would want my wonderful Auggie Doggie painted. I lost her last year but she was an amazing dog. I found her at a shelter as a dog who was unwanted. She had the kindest heart and was the most loyal animal I have ever met. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body. When my kids cried she would lean against them to comfort them (she was a Doberman/German Shepard mix so she wasn’t small by any means) and knock them over. It was so sweet and awkward. I miss her so much, she made my world a better place.

I would get a portrait of my little dog, Cora. She is a maltese-poodle mix and almost a year old (they grow up so fast! *sniff*). She definitely has some quirks. For instance, when I throw her toy to a certain part of my house, she always jumps on the couch, runs onto the side table, peers down at her toy for a few seconds, the runs back across the couch and jumps off, and runs around the couch to get her toy! It would be so much simpler for her to just run around the couch in the first place, but she rarely does!

I would want a painting of my sweet boy Jebediah, who passed away two years ago. Not a day passes that I don’t miss him. He was a big mush who would look at me like I was the most beautiful, witty, brilliant and wonderful person in the world. He would also sometimes roll his eyes at me. He’s the only dog that I’ve ever seen do that.

PAINT MY PET! I have an almost 3 year old soft-coated wheaten terrier named Fergus. He never fails to make me laugh each and every day with his antics. One of his best includes his evening routine with his blankie whereby he (ahem) humps and ‘kills’ it, and then sucks and kneads with his paws while whining with a look of pure contentment on his face. :)

I have two dogs, so it would be difficult to pick which one to paint- but I’d have to go with mutt, Mabel. When she looks at you, she looks like she’s smiling. She has the most animated face of any dog I’ve ever met. The puppy in the house gets all the attention now, because he’s bigger and knocks her out of the way, so Mabel deserves some attention. It was her house first, ya know. And… the puppy wouldn’t sit still to get a nice picture taken anyway.

I have an amazing mixed breed that we adopted from a rescue here in Chicago. He is beautiful – short brownish hair, bright yellow eyes, and a cute white patch on his chest. He’s an amazing dog – very mellow and low key, but he has random spurts of hilarious energy that leave us cracking up and chasing him around.
