Fab Freebie: Paint Me A Picture

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Studio Eriksdotter.

    Paint me a picture!

The majority of the art in my place is super cute(and affordable!) Etsy finds, but my favorite piece is probably an asymmetrical Union Jack flag inspired painting I did in shades of blue and green. It was just a fun afternoon project, but it definitely adds some bold color and pattern to the area above my desk.

I have a shadow box in the living room with the cards my husband and I gave one another on our wedding day, as well as some wedding flowers and pearls. It’s a little cheesy, but by far my favorite original “art” in the house.

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!!!

Don’t laugh, but my favorite piece of art in the house was painted by an elephant at the Nashville Zoo. She only paints a couple times a year, and we ended up buying one of her black and white paintings because the others didn’t quite fit our home’s colors…It’s definately a fun convo piece- not only because it looks like an image from an ink blot test (so everyone sees different thins in it), but also because…well, how many elephant painters do you know?? ;)

The artist also donates a portion of proceeds to a charity in india, so i didnt mind shelling out a bit of extra dough knowing it was going to a good cause!

Aside from my kids’ artwork – and I’ve got a few favorites there – I have two Ernest Lee originals. He’s a Columbia, SC, artist who’s well-known for his ‘fancy chicken’ paintings. As it turns out, neither of mine are chickens – but I would really love to have one of those, too!

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

I have a few old-time (early 1900’s) photographs that I brought with me from my childhood home. I found the photos (and all sorts of cool antiques) while searching through my house’s basement as a kid — the previous owners, and the owners before that had left a lot of things behind.
One of the photos has beautiful handwriting on the back: “to Elizabeth – from your loving friend, Ethel”
