***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

Paint me a picture!! Well, the only original art I own is photographs. Some taken by (very) talented friends. Some taken by my (very talented) Dad. I even have a collection of framed photos of some of our favorite cities that we’ve taken during vacations.

My favorite piece of “original artwork” would have to be the memo board in our house that is covered with notes from friends and family and invitations. Everyday when I look at it I remember how fortunate we are to have such a support network!

I love my oil painting of red poppies that I bought in a small antique store in Fredericksburg, TX. It was the most expensive piece of unnecessary home decor I’d ever purchased at the time (about $350), but 3 years later I still smile every time I see it hanging in my kitchen!

My favorite piece(s) of art are two pieces that were created for me by my cousins who are sisters. One painted me a watercolor picture when she was in elementary school and it is hanging on the wall of my office. The other sculpted my head when she was in elementary school. Both were created by budding young artists — and both lit me up with smiles when I received them!!

My favorite “homemade” art is a photo my boyfriend took of my legs. I got the idea from some sexy posters at Urban Outfitters. I loved the idea, but wanted to class it up a bit. No underwear or naked bellies for me! I rigged up some lighting and broke out my new (at the time) Nikon and he snapped away. I edited the photo a bit and made it black and white, ordered a poster size print from Kodak and had it framed. It really gives our somewhat sweet bedroom a grown-up sensibility. And if I didn’t tell you, you’d never know those stems were mine :)

Years ago I bought a large abstract cityscape painting that was buried in the back of a junk store in Coney Island. This place literally had heaps of stolen goods and junk in it. I always get complements on it and it always makes me chuckle — it cost me $25.

My favorite piece of original artwork was done by a local artist from our town, and it was given to me as a Christmas gift by my husband. It’s a picture of a snowflake done with watercolors and thread…the thread details the intricacies of the snowflake. It’s my favorite piece because I know that it’s really a one-of-a-kind!

    PAINT ME A PICTURE!

I have way too many favorite pieces of art, however the most spectacular piece I have is spectacular because of what it is and who it is by and not what it looks like…. It’s an official marked print of Pierre Auguste Renoir’s 1879 painting “Margot Berard” made in the early 1950’s from the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. Though the painting is totally creepy, I found it in its original wood frame with an official label from the museum at a Goodwill last year for $4!!!!!! I knew it would be foolish of me to leave it behind, however I have it in a closet because it’s not my taste and, like I said, sorta creepy! LOL

My most prized piece of art is a painting my husband comissioned for our engagement. It depicts him down on bended knee asking me to marry him. He placed it in a ballroom where he took me after a symphony, and that’s where he proposed. It is amazing because in the paiting I was wearing the same dress I had on that night. He did an amazing job of planning it!

I also have a prized batik his family brought us from Sri Lanka for a wedding gift.

PAINT ME A PICTURE! My fav one-of-a-kind in our house is a canvas painted in shades of cream and white. Each person who looks at it seems to see something different in it, which I love. Its quite large and I made it in our first home to fill some space but it has really grown on me (I’m a designer, not a painter).
