***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – scroll down to see who won!***

The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. That’s right everyone, put on your fancy pants because soon you could be telling your friends smugly “oh yeah, that beautiful painting over there? I commissioned it.”

Eriksdotter Grey Petals

We really like the color in all of Erica’s work, and we love that our winner will be able to guide the color and design of their custom work to fit their home perfectly. You can even pick the best size for your space (from a 12 x 9″ up to 16 x 20″). Here’s how to enter:

  • PRIZE: A commissioned painting from Studio Eriksdotter worth up to $350
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, November 24th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States, Canada and Europe!
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

******************************

Not only do we have one winner, but everyone can get 10% off of anything from Studio Eriksdotter through Dec 9th. Use the code YOUNGHOUSELOVE for any stationery purchase in her Etsy shop or you can contact her directly for art inquiries.

And our very lucky winner (as selected by random.org) is… Ali Moore. Congrats!

We are just wanting to start getting art pieces that mean something to us but we do not have anything yet. However, we do always have an original up somewhere that my 3 year old has done!

Our longest-standing piece of art is a huge record-size steelhead my husband caught on the Columbia River. His grandfather that he was named after was there; that was Grandpa’s last fishing trip. Hanging next to the fish is a picture of my husband and his grandpa (and the fish) and a photo of the place they caught in in the Hanford Reach.

(yes, it’s a fish. Good taxidermy IS art)

My favorite has to be the thrift store find my sister got me of an old French-looking poster. It went perfectly with our master bedroom color scheme; it was fate.

My husband is an amateur photographer, so our house it filled with his prints. I love it since there are a lot of sentimental photos from trips we’ve taken, but I would love to add some non-photographic art!

My favorite piece of art is the $5 one-of-a-kind oil painting I bought on a beach flea-market in the Dominican Republic. We got swindled on some “aged” rum and “fine” cigars but we love the memory our little painting conjures!

My favorite piece is a painting my archaeologist boyfriend brought me back from Ethiopia. It’s a vibrant oil painting of two bold blue “donkeys” – aka taxies along with two actual donkeys. Background is this vibrant yellow. Love it – but its small in an otherwise unadorned walls of a large room and its uber hard to find something else to hang with it.

“PAINT ME A PICTURE!” Despite creating a few pieces myself for my home, my favorite piece of artwork has got to be a two-toned purple flower shaped ceramic vase that my daughter made in Middle School art class. It’s unique and pretty just like she is.

My apartment is pretty devoid of art, but my favorite piece is actually a school project I did while in undergrad. I took a phycology class (the study of algae) and our final project was to create a series of algae presses (just like flower presses, but more unique). I have my favorite one hanging in my living room now.

My favorite one of a kind piece of art is a painting I bought in Prague. I pointed it out in a fancy gallery where my parents were shopping and it turns out that one of the salesman had painted it himself and it was actually affordable. Not only that, but it was the first painting of his that he had sold and had just been put up that day!

They’re not one of a kind, but I scored some amazing vintage botanical woodblock prints at thrift store. They don’t have a frame, but I’ve been thinking of doing a custom matte (maybe with fabric) in a large store-bought frame.

I love to take photographs of where my husband and I have been. I have to say our bathroom collage is my favorite- it’s quirky- I took pictures of bathroom type stuff at a salvage place up in Massachusetts- hot and cold faucets, clawfoot tubs, and some dentist chairs. I turned them into black and white and did some photoshop magic to make them look old and threw them in frames we had in the attic.
